My old dentist retired recently, he had spent 15 years or so bolting and pinning my molar so that it would hold filling and in the end it was more metal than tooth. A few weeks ago a bit of tooth broke of it and I saw my new dentist tonight and she spotted that there was an entrapped bit of tooth or filling that could possibly be a choking hazard and tried to remove it with her excavator tool. It got jammed and hurt a bit so she pulled a bit more.
At this point the tooth exploded like a grenade and there was quite a bit of blood. Things raced through my mind mainly that the dentist had beautiful eyes and how nice and firm her breasts were against my shoulder and this caused me to get an erection ( a thing my previous dentist had failed to do in the 25 years he had treated me).
It seems all that is left will have to be removed surgically as there is little tooth above the gum now. How painful will this be and will it be local or general?

After reading your recent posts, am I correct in deducing that there is only one part of your body that is functioning properly these days?

When I had a surgical extraction done it was under a general. This was, however, 20 years ago, so things may have changed in the meantime.

The 12 hours immediately after waking up were unpleasant because of the combination of general-anaesthetic wooziness and blood all caked around my nose and mouth. I had a swollen cheek for a week or so but otherwise it was ok. I stayed overnight in a private hospital (my dad had insurance with his job) but I'd expect you to be in and out same day on the NHS.

Wotcha.

I've had a rather stubborn wisdom tooth removed - they tend to use local with sedation.
Works well too.

His fucking tooth exploded like a grenade, bro.

*Flinches*

I would pray for general, this is one of the things where I'd pay extra if I had to, sounds like torture to me to have to be awake through that kind of work. Sad

All of mine have been done under local anaesthetic including two particular stubborn bastards that had began to grown in their own row next to my other teeth. I was like a shark.

The only bit of going to the dentist that I cannot stand is the noise of that bloody drill. It - quite literally - goes through me. What a god awful invention.

I'm sure, knowing your colourful past, you'll find it a piece of piss.

I have tinnitus (constant noise in the ears) and my form takes the sound of a dentist drill so I am used to it although on a bad day it can drive me nuts to the extent that I enjoy a noisy classroom that can blank it a little.
My impression of the grenading of the tooth was of course subjective, firstly there was no bang, heat or smoke just a lot of tooth shrapnel flying about. I was actually less concerned about this than the dentist as she looked hurt and a slight tear formed in her eye. If I was not flat on my back and bleeding a lot I would have put my arm around her to try and comfort her ( and of course cop a crafty feel). At present she has capped the remains of the stump with some whitish putty but with no bite contact. She says as soon as that starts to fail it is down the hospital for some serious work Mr. Green

My dad recently decided to have all of his teeth removed and false ones screwed I to his jaw. He had general for that, his jaw was swollen for about a week, could barely talk and eat liquid. Looks quality now though Thumbs Up

So basically that on a smaller scale, will most likely hurt like Fuck for a day or two and be swollen and very sensitive. Eat sensibly and drink through a straw for a few days and you'll be past the worst of it

I'd think it would be local as it's only one tooth

You will probably be given the option of local, sedation + local or GA. Given your massochistic streak, local alone will almost certainly be fine. You may even enjoy it.

By surgical extraction they usually mean cutting a flap in the gum then using the drill to burr away the bone to the outside of the root, taking the root out sideways then stitching the flap back across.

In many ways, it's less traumatic than howking about with an elevator and digging the bugger out, risking it further fragmenting and causing a lot of blunt tissdue trauma.

It's easier to do a really effective regional block using local on the bottom jaw.

I for one wouldn't be happy having anyone doing a GA on me unless there was an anaesthetist present. Dentists CAN do GAs but I don't think they should. My Mum was a dentist for 30 years and she was of the same oppinion, GAs went to the dental hospital.

I had all four wisdom teeth pulled under GA.

My dentist was a bit wary as apparently the nerve in my jaw looked pretty close to the roots and she didn't want to fuck it up.

Much hilarity was had with Doctors and Nurses at the hospital, seemed very afraid of talking about my HIV status. Strange for an HCP that...

After waking up was a bit of an awkward fucker... Nil by mouth all day and surgery delayed = Lewis very grumpy. Chomped through a few packets of biscuits when I was a bit more with it!

I had 500/30 codeine to take home but managed just fine on the pharmacy strength stuff.

I still poke the craters in my gum line left behind! Smile

I had two teeth removed several years ago, under general.

Found it to be absolutely painless. The rest of the day was strange, because my mouth was numb. It made eating/drinking difficult. The affects laster longer than that of a filling. They also put these bags in my mouth, where the teeth used to be, that I didn't know about. Didn't know about until I tried to eat a sandwich, that is. Laughing

I was awake and fully aware while i had a pipe jabbed in my neck/shoulder and rammed down to pretty much into my heart Neutral Under local anaesthetic, not unpleasant but very strange experience!

I had a problem wisdom tooth removed at the dentist, with a small abcess behind it so the local anaesthetic (or numb juice as i used to call it as a kid) didn't do a thing, didn't stop her from tearing my gum apart to try and get it out, completely ignore the 'don't smoke' warnings and got extremely unpleasant dry socket that went on for 3 weeks!

Not that I've ever had any dental threatment or anything Rolling Eyes but chances are they'll just numb you up, slit the gum and yank the rest of the tooth out.

(I had a shit diet as a kid and needed a lot of dental work from a young age.... which from 13 years old included having a live nerve drilled into, a root canal where the dentist went too far and caused a nasty infection causing half my face to swell up, having toothache so bad no amount of injections were numbing my mouth, a dry socket, tooth being scooped out of the gum, dentist stabbing himself in the finger after a tooth smashed, having 5 teeth removed in a single sitting and eating the same day, having 2 teeth removed and dentures put right over the wound.... etc, the only teeth I've never had any problems with and the only ones I have left of my own are the 6 front ones on my lower jaw)

2 crowns, incisor and canine - piece of piss
Abscess first molar - difficult for dentist to remove as I have splayed roots.
Cuspid root treatment - only bit that nipped was the injection.
Don't have top wisdom teeth, but do have the bottom 2 and they just appeared never felt a thing.

Think I have a filling in everyone of my teeth except from 2. Really thin enamel its a b*tch.

I had to have a a very big wisdom tooth extracted some years back, the dentist was too poofy to do it so I got sent to a hospital, they wanted to put me right out, I said no just get on with it and give me a local, they cut it into 4 bits with a drilly thing then pulled each bit seperately, there was 2 of them working on me, they got all sweaty and tired trying to pull a few of the bits out and had to take a break, I was fine after.

Year before last i had my jaw cut down and screwed back together and my forehead removed and put back, and I was fine after.

Also remember if you get a general they will look at your willy while you are out and snigger about it.

I've got no enamel on my teeth (well not since my adult teeth came through) and I've only got two fillings (admittedly I'm getting another one on Friday). Wink

It will be extracted once the putty stuff she put on the stump fails and it will be done at Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am glad it is lower jaw not upper as it seems less personal.

So what part of this thread is making you weak at the anus?
Is it the OP`s talk about his teeth or him telling us about his hard-on? Laughing
