In that box is an unopened brand new 1989 kawasaki zx7.

In this one and I quote "black one 89 zx 7 stored at my brothers farm house,never assembled,,kawasaki wants it,but not getting it"

Could you have a bike completely brand new left unopened for 25 years and not even looked??

btw both bikes belong to the same person!

Fair play to the bloke though, having not one, but 2 completely unopened 1989 ZX7's is some wise move!

Is doing something like that much of an investment? Considering inflation and the length of time it'll take to sell a machine like that, when for the same price you could buy a much better modern bike? or am I looking at this from a logical point of view, maybe there's more to it?

Hat's off to the guy… I could never do that, i'd be too tempted to assemble it and ride it Very Happy . Then again, I bet he probably had a third ZX7 that he actually rode, if he could afford to buy two brand new ninja's and keep them boxed without ever needing to sell them in 25 years.

Seems a bit stupid to me. Doubt there is any financial gain, stinks of more money than sense.

What if you'd done that with an RC30? Would have cost what? £10k when they were new?

What would a zero-miles, crated RC30- go for these days? £40k+?

It happened. Brand new NR750 and RC30 "found"
IIRC the 30 went for £50k

The NR is for sale on ebay for 100k

Not sure that ZXR 750s (which I assume is what you mean?) are all that valuable now?

You still see fair few being hooned around day to day, and you can pick up neat, clean looking ones for 2-3K.

It can work as an investment, but it needs to be 30-40 years. Right now it might be worth what he paid for it, allowing for inflation. In another decade it'll be worth significantly more.

There was a brand new late seventies Kawasaki stroker on ebay recently - I think it was a KH400. It was bid up to a high price, but didn't make reserve.

What seems really strange to me is that the right bike can be worth significantly more in parts than as a bike. I couldn't imagine keeping a bike in its crate for 30+ years, and then not even assembling it, but just breaking it. Unless it was a Kawasaki.

It's a 14 plate.

In the same way that any 14 plate bike on the road currently was probably build before the 1st of March

If those bikes have been crated for so long. Would all the seals be fucked and carbs gummed up tires fucked etc.and would need a full decent strip down and rebulid.

Shame the 1991 model is a much better bike.

I doubt there's any problem with the seals etc.. as it will have been kept in a sealed environment.

Not necessarily, he has apparently turned down an offer of $15'000 for each one.

They are the first year of what has a serious potential of becoming a classic which has a pretty decent fanbase.

Try £1500 and that's top end of the range; average 1K is good money.

The 400 holds it price much better; that is circa 2.5 k

$15k is probably no real gain since the ZXR was new. Add the cost of storage and insurance for quarter of a century and it seems worse, and without those you stand a fair chance of you initial investment being totally lost.
