Coming home last night I was about half a mile from home when this happened. A cabby parked on the pavement started making a u-turn just as I approached. Couldn't swing around him because of a car coming the other way, I grabbed a load of brakes and the horn too, but when my front tyre hit the patch of rough surface (was shellgrip once upon a time) the front locked up and down I went.

Greasy little bastard tried to give me false details, writing down both his registration and his phone number wrong and THAT was only after I started calling the police because he said he hadn't had an accident so he was off. Couldn't see why I was getting upset and couldn't understand why I had braked so hard anyway. All in all - wasn't that interested that I could have been seriously hurt. If I hadn't hit the horn I would have been planted right in the side of him.

Witness initially said he saw it all and would give me his number but then got in his car and drove off while I was gathering my bike out of the road. Nice.

Trashed the nice shiny exhaust that Bubblin77 gave me a few weeks ago to replace the scraped up one I had Sad

What a scumbag, typical taxi driver. He'll no doubt tell his insurance you were speeding or something similar Rolling Eyes

Look on the bright side, it's a black cab not a minicab. This means he is far more likely to have proper insurance. His driving licence and cab licence are important to him, so he'll be interested in getting the whole thing settled and out of the way.

Did he have any kind of camera in the cab? If so, can the police grab the footage from it sharpish?

If you need any help straightening out the bandit, just shout. Me, and probably about half of BCF, will attend (and then ignore you and stroke your lathe).

Not much damage to the bike, mostly cosmetic. I wasn't hurt at all, was nearly stopped so just a few scuffs on my bash hat and jacket.
I was going to call the cops from the scene but I had dropped my phone in an excavation earlier and the microphone wasn't working. He wrote his phone number down but I just didn't trust him so I made out I was going to call it then he suddenly said no hang on I will text you from my private phone. After he buffered off and I realised the witness had gone I thought did this and went to the cop station which was just round the corner and made a report. The desk bird was cool and put him down as supplying false details.

Out of interest, what's the situation when someone causes you to crash but there's no actual collision?

In true forum tradition ;

Poor obs.

And good luck with the claim seeing as no other vehicle is damaged.

Sad to say; it's probably better to hit them; financially speaking !

Gutted for you + bike!

OK, we all make mistakes. But to lie, then try to leave and claim he didn't know why your bikes down. What a prick.

However it has confirmed a feeling I had, which is you are bulletproof.

The insurance company don't have the bike, I rode it home and to work the next day. I'm waiting for the road traffic collision team to get back to me before I decide whether to submit any sort of claim as I don't want to risk losing my NCD because it will make it impossible to insure my turbo bike next year, especially since I've just been delivered a S172 for doing 90 on the M6 a couple of weeks back.

Well that's the thing, he doesn't even admit to having been involved in an accident, gave false details and claimed the cab was rented, not his.
