Hi Guys,

I am thinking of putting crash bungs on my r6. I think it mounts on the chassie closed to the engine bolt.

I have done some research on pros and cons.
Some say it could cause far more damage as it is like a hammer hitting the chassie. Some say if the bolt is snapped you may end up with a broken bolt in the cylinder head which again is a pain.

most forums recommand r&G as cheap ones could break under force and hence not worth the risk.

now on plus side, people say , it will protect fairing and body damage .

It is the only point that touches the ground so it limits the damage to a minimum level but possible that it could cause engine or chassie damage by pushing against them

and of course they are only good if the bike does not flip.

so now my questions will be :

is doing knee down or big lean corners dangerous with crash bung on ? is there a risk of it catching the floor ?

Would you do track days with it ?

would you put it on your bike ?

I have also heard people a lot of time saying , binning the bike. I have owned few bikes in the past 3 years and never crashed any of them (touch the wood). Even if i did, I thought they are repairable .
So why do people use the term bin ?

If I was to come off my r6 in track days, does that mean the bike has to be binned ?

Chassie gets bent ?

Most likely they'll be good. They might not.

You've pretty much answered your own question in your own post.
Buy them, fit them, try not to crash or worry about them.

I did but thought I get a second opinion.

I didn't just create a new thread for fun of it . I do actually listen to people experience and try to prevent mistakes by hearing other people experience otherwise I can just get one and post closed

For the bolt to snap and end up in the cylinder head it would have to a pretty impressive crash. Mr. Green

As to if they'll prevent damage or caust damage, that depends on the crash. The ones that attach directly to the fairings aren't going to hold up in a crash and will just snap off taking a chunk of the fairing with them.

Ones that bolt directly the frame have better odds of doing well in a crash but they're not risk free.

In general bikes are repairable but if you've got good crash bungs then they can save on damage to the fairings and if the crash bung wears down in a crash rather than the engine casing wearing through then that's likely to save you lots of time and money.

Binning a bike doesn't mean it goes in the bin. Razz

No. No.

Yes.

Yes.

It Patently Fucking Obviously just means 'crashed'.

Yes. Even if you've just scuffed the fairings a little bit, you must immediately consign the entire thing to a skip. What do you think? Rolling Eyes

That isn't even a question. And the word is 'chasis'.
