South Cumbria destinations?

Hi,

I'm looking for a destination within a hour or two of South West Cumbria.
Basically I would basically like ideas where I can find a reasonable chip shop where I can munch a decent sausage (must be battered!), chips and curry, with a reasonable view and decent roAds to get there!

Any ideas please people?

The road from Keswick down to Windermere and back up along the side of Ullswater is nice. Could add in Hartside Pass as well. E.g. like this.

Not that I know about the sausage availability, but you do get views while riding.

The old A6 between Kendal and Penrith suited the zzr well. Nice sweeping corners, wide and fun. The road alongside Ullswater and over the pass was harder work though.
I got my sausage and chips too - with curry!

Still foggy as fook around there I see? I turned back from my planned ride to Hartside due to fog last Sunday. Got home and read 3 bikers died in Cumbria that day, not bloody surprised the way cagers were driving.

I would explore Cumbria more often but tank range is quite low on my bike and don't want to get caught out. Need to start strapping a jerry can on the back really.

What kind of range would you consider to be poor?
My 1198 has a range of 80 or so before the warning light is on, so round here (as in mid Wales where I usually ride) I'd be looking out for a fuel station at around the 65 to 70 mark. I reckon that would give me about 25 or 30 until I'd be pushing - more than enough I'd imagine.
(The last time it happened I ended as the only one in a romper suit on a forecourt with a cafe adjacent full of Harley's and their riders. I felt a little bit of the oddball!)

Don't ride a sports bike - But an adventure bike, but do sportsbikes have really tiny tanks or just baaaad mpg? I get about 250 - 300miles out of a tank.

You may find sports bikes aren't nice to ride for long periods due to the sporty riding position. Find too much weight on the wrists, neck muscles ache and cramped legs from the peg position.

Whenever been on ride that included sports type bikes found about 100 mile (or less) stops for fag and/or tea/coffee and/or pee break and/or petrol (just in case you understand). In reality just an excuse to stretch the legs and relieve some suffering Wink Very Happy

I'm sure other's will disagree. I'll wait for someone to post about how they did LEJOG in a single hit on a GSXR and back again no problem.

Being Italian it probably has a small tank so it looks good, form over function being their thing Laughing My bike is good on fuel just has a tiny tank and the jetting isn't quite right yet.

Bit of both really;mind I am refering to older non injected stuff.

35 mpg is about it on fzr 400s up to the 1000.( much less if horsed)
The zxrs are worse.
20 litre tanks say.

They're not meant to be ridden like commuters or cruisers though.
A brisk pace takes a lot of the upper body loading off and on the roads they are at their best on; you are moving the lower body about enough to prevent saddle sores.
Ya need fuel within 150 miles anyhow.
Gives your concentration a rest too.
