Hi guys.

me and my dad went and bought a cbf125 on sunday. The guy seemed tottally genuine but stated that his v5 and new tax disc which he had got was in his mums car and she would not be back for 2 hours. We had drove an hour to view the bike and did not want to leave without it. The bike is insured and everything like that. He wrote a reciept and gave me the new keepers slip which he did have on him....however, stupidly this seems to have fallen out my pocket on the ride home.

it is now friday and not a sign of anything through the post he said he would send me but he has kept in contact and says he is going to ring the dvla on monday and say hes sold it but ita got lost in the post. My main issue is now im currenttly riding a bike that had no tax disc and no way if taxing it? He says it is definatly taxed....will this show on the police database? Any ideas how I can get it taxed?

any help would be great as I am having to use the bike to commute to work and worried

Thanks zeano183

Seems legit.

Like what?

Why on earth would he have detached the new keeper slip from the V5C and just happen to have that but not the V5C? Thinking

Do go on...

Neutral

I've kind of lost the thread here, but this sounds dodgier than Dodgy McDodger playing dodgeball on the dodgems.

Things you need to do:

1) Check the VED status as above. Fortunately you only need the VRM and make, not the V5C number.

2) Tell the DVLA that you are the keeper of the vehicle. You can use V62 and it's free if you have the V5C/2 new keeper sli- awwwww. Sad

What you could do is to send them a letter saying that you've already sent a V62 and the V5C/2 and are concerned that you've not heard anything back. Whistle

I dont mind paying the 25 pound to get it swapped over. Ive checked the details amd it says liability due on 5/3/2014 and its un licensed. He is adament its taxed tho and ive heard it can take a while to update there systems? Ive kept in contact with him but he sent one back saying he is 100% trustworthy and would not scam someone and unfortunatly shit happens. Hes also gave me a story saying his best frind died on his motorbike yeaterday and will sort it on monday as he has other things now going on. Im so stuck what to do. I just want to pay 17 for it to be taxed grrrrr. I have to use the bikw othwrwise cant get to work.

Its over a month, and the fact it says liability on the 5th Mar rather than the first suggests the old tax was chopped in (although feck knows why you would bother for a £17 tax disk!)

I hate to say it, but I think you have bought into something rather dodgy...

As i said in your other thread Confused

Why would he have the new keeper slip but not the rest of the v5?

Sounds as dodgy as fuck to me.

I know the more I think about the dodgier it all sounds. But what do I do? Its not registerd as stolen. If I ring the dvla do they have anyway they can change keeper iver the phone and maybe tax it too if I explain the situation?

I'd be getting an application for a V5 in as soon as possible and be taking the bus to work until it arrives and you can tax it....

All you can really do is apply for the v5 and wait.

£80 fine, and being done for logbook irregularities

and/or

the bike could be impounded resulting in a £200 release fee and £21 a day storage charges.

And you will have to buy tax to cover the period from when the tax/sorn expired.

No.

The most they'll do is to send a letter to the current registered keeper (I doubt it's the geezer you bought it from) saying that someone else has applied to be the keeper. If they don't hear back from them, then eventually they'll send you a V5C. This will take a month or so.

Since this totally trustworthy seller "has" sent off the V5C, he won't be able to give you the 11 digit reference number from it, but that's what you need in order to buy VED online. The license (tax disk) will go to him, but it'll show as VED paid at least.

All this said, I might be being overly cynical. It's possible that if you call the DVLA then they'll actually help you to give them monies. Must... keep... straight face.

The laugh is, until you're actually the registered keeper, any postal penalties issued will go to the current keeper, so don't sweat it too much - just don't get stopped on the spot, or leave it out in public.

Eh, Long term, it'll probably work out all right, and you'll have learned a valuable lesson about trust.

Just checking: you do have either a motorcycle license, or provisional motorcycle entitlement validated by completing a CBT course in the past 2 years, right?
