Can you afford a 3500 pound hit if you smash it up?

Crikey - double for pillion and commuter?!

I'm going to have to look up some insurance threads to see where I might stand with a full licence and bigger bike. It's a cost I'll swallow regardless but I don't want any nasty surprises.

What bike are you actually going to get, mudcow?

Bear in mind though, that depending on the wording of the policy, and (possibly!) in general, you don't need pillion cover in order to legally ride with a pillion. It may just mean your insurance wouldn't pay for damage to your bike if you crashed while carrying a pillion. Which they wouldn't do anyway if you had TPO / TPFT.

I've been in a similar situation to OP deciding on insurance - in all fairness it worked out very little better [at my quote prices] FC than TPFT. The excesses and likely claim back in the end I expect will recover maybe 25% more than I would get TPFT at the end of the day, for not far off double the insurance premium, at its absolute cheapest this year was 130 Vs 210, my first year was 800 TPFT Sick.

I went from 125 to 636, its manageable and a lot of fun if you go steady Razz three years of high excesses and fairly high premiums for just TPFT later I managed to get by without destroying it and now can afford to insure it FC with a semi-reasonable excess.

Sadly the bike generally is not in a good way ironically Laughing

Extremely dangerous advice which tells only part of the story and doesn't highlight the danger of putting an insurer on for RTA or A75 insurer.

I don't want to give an insurance company and excuse not to pay out though, I carry pillion a lot and commute a lot so there the most likely times ill have a crash Laughing

Insurance companies are fucking fraudsters with an operating license.

I did a quote on confused.com and the cheapest I could get the R1 at was £1,084 FC from MCE (Who were my current insurers).

H&R came in at £1,180 second.

So I go over to the biker insurer and MCE remains the same but H&R come in at £992.

Then I go over to compare the market and H&R comes in at £1,250 and MCE comes in at £905. That's the policy I ended up taking out in the end, with an excess of..... £2,000! I had to take out excess protection at £62 so I don't need to pay it.

Robbing cunts.

I do have a 28 day SP30 ban and 3 points for overtaking on a zebra crossing declared.

I wouldn't mind but I've been riding for years, I'm 29 and live in a nice area and have 6 years NCB.

But one of the has XS protect - insurance for your excess in the event in a total loss claim... He's TPFT so will only pay an excess in that case....
