1999 ZX6R G2 - Things to look for when buying?

Going to look at one soon. 30k miles.

Any ideas what to look for apart from the usual things? I vaguely remember someone mentioning the suspension adjusters seize occasionally...?

Anyone have an idea what book price would be?

As long as it was a good bit under a grand with MOT and tax, I would consider that to be a good deal, but you can find the nicer looking J model for a shade over £1k.

depending on budget, i might have a similar era very nice ZX9R you could have...

but if it's a 6 you want - look at a J model really unless the G is a serious minter and good value.

Just so you know, the G and J are very similar, and the only thing you're likely to notice is that they look different.

I'd say anything from £800-£1500 depending on condition, consumables etc is a fair ball park for this time of year.

The engines are fairly bulletproof, and they shouldn't give you many problems. I had to replace the fuel pump on my old G2, but that was at 50k miles.

The front 6 pot calipers are a pain. They seize up for fun, so get used to that. Keep on top of maintenance and give them some time and they'll be fine. There is a common 4 pot conversion that apparently solves the problem.

The finish on them has never been great. Expect the passenger foot pegs to be flaking, along with the rear grab handles and the metal frame that holds the screen up. Oh and the wheels, the paint will be flaking. If it isn't, ask why.

I don't think there is much more to check on these. From all of the research I've done they seem fairly solid, and a good choice among the competition in terms of reliability.

28k miles and regularly serviced and not abused in not an issue.

10k miles of abuse could be a problem.

Don't let mileage be an automatic no-no, especially at only 28k!

Lol, 28k miles is nothing. My SV had over 50k and was fine, and my old G2 zx6 ticked over to 50k just before I sold it. Engines will generally run a lot longer than the rest of the components, so as long as those have been looked after I wouldn't worry too much.

Check;

Front brakes for binding.
Shock for excessive bounce and corrosion.
The front fairing fits around the headlight correctly, if it doesnt, the lugs on the back of the fairing are broken or the headlight subframe is bent.

RSV4 Brembo MC but can use any radial Brembo MC such as RSV Gen2 or Ducati 749/999.

Ducati 749/999 calipers, can use the non radial Brembo's from an RSV as they're the same but gold instead.

Custom made HEL lines, RSV4 fitment, ZX6R G2 length, Ducati 749/999 fitment.
