Hi guys

I jimoberlizerma speedfight 2 that's in really good condition, only one problem.......

It won't start....lol

The guy I bought it from had bought it for his son and everything was working perfectly but then the vpld weather set in and it was stored on the garage for a few months.

When he then tried to start it the battery was dead so he replaced it but it still doesn't start.

From what I've just been reading it seems that when the battery goes on these, the immobilizer forgets the key and needs to be recoded (not a very good design).

It also seems that you need a red key to recode it and I only have two bla k ones.

So my question is..

Is there anything I can do apart from buying one of those CDI's with the immobilizer bypassed?

I had a problem with the immobiliser a week or so ago.

Right, when you turn it on, does the immobiliser flash 3 times then two times then once? Then i think it should stay on... Because if it does you need the "master" key to reset it... Which you don't have so if it's doing that, try disconnecting the battery and then try to kick start the bike...

If non of that works, Check for spark.
Get back to me and i'll try help as much as possible!

Thanks for the reply Wink

To be honest I don't remember the led staying on, I just remember it flashing when the guy turned it on To disable the lock and still flashing when we was loading it into the van.

From what I've just been reading, if the immobilizer is kicking in then it should still start but not rev.

So if I disconnect the battery and kick start it. What exactly is it doing bypassing the immobilizer?

Right, The immobiliser gets it's powers from the battery... But you can run a bike without one, so if you can start it without the battery connected you could find it was the immobiliser.

Only problem with me is, i couldn't get a spark when i had my problem, so i think it was just my cdi unit. But the light flashing it good, means the immobiliser is working. But if your immobiliser HAS forgot the keys signal then you NEED to get the bypass because you'll have to splash out £300-£400 on a whole new immobiliser, ignition and keys!

So check if it start without the battery and get back to me! :p

Thanks again.

I'll give it a go in a few hours when its light outside.

Are the cdi's easy to get at on these?

Or do I need to remove most of the panels.

Let's get this clear, it doesn't start at all? So you turn the ignition on and you use the electric start or kickstart and it won't start?

If not then try removing the battery and kick starting it.

If that doesn't work then make sure to check for a spark.

Yeah you have to take all of them off even the radiator at the front! Only panels that don't come off is the very back ones! Ooh and you don't need to take the seat bucket out either.

Getting to the CDI is such a pain in the backside! Took me ages to work out how to get to it and many failed attempts haha! It's located near your feet but it's behind the panel infront of your legs but closer to your feet! It's the hardest panel to get off (In my opinion)

But make sure to check the things i mentioned first then get back to me before going into detail with the CDI!

No it doesn't start at all. The engine turns but doesn't fire.

My ones air cooled so no radiator to remove.

I checked the led again and the led was flashing constantly and when I turn the key it then stayed on for about a second then went off.

So I pressed the starter button and the engine just cranked over (fast so I don't think the battery was low) but didn't fire. I then started trying to kick start it and after about ten hard kicks it fired up.

I let it run for a while and so far it seems to start after a couple of kicks but still doesn't start with the button.

Any ideas ?

Starter motor fecked ( very common) starter soleniod fecked (less common) both brake levers have a switch which fail often, meter them out and replace if needed.

Thanks for the reply Wink

I left the engine running for a long while today while I was doing a few things. And now it seems to be starting on the button.

A bit off topic but.......

Are there any online owners or workshop manuals that anyone knows about?
