East Asians are funny how they so frequently wear those cotton masks that actually do absolutely nothing.

They should get some respros!

I am in Tianjin right now, about 3 hours drive south of Beijing, China. When visibility is down to 500 meters, and there is no fog, one of those masks is really necessary.

Agreed, it's a festering armpit of a country. The air is evil.

However, it's kind of good actually that everyone wears them. There is pressure if YOU are sick to wear the mask. It's not about protecting yourself (usually), it's about others.

And as he said, also, the air is pretty rough here, and Asians as a whole (people from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan from my direct experience) loathe dust in all shapes and sizes. You can be on a bus, with one open window at the back... passing building work 100-200m away... and everyone on the bus will cover their mouths somehow or other with their shirts/hands.

I mainly wear one so the po-po can't tell it's a foreigner riding the bike Laughing

Vids not working right now, but I'm sure the Beastie Boys did a music video like this in Tokyo. The Pharcyde did a backwards/forwards video too (not in Tokyo), pretty cool effect.

Last time I was in Shanghai I saw blue sky and puffy white clouds, though not for very long. The entire group I was with took photos for posterity Laughing

They're actually pretty useful. I was mixing up some caustic soda to attack the blocked up shower and needless to say the dusty shit given off wasn't very nice to breathe. I just put on my polish gas mask, and job was a good-un. It's currently got a commercial P3 particle fitler on it which cost about a fiver, pretty good that the military masks uses the same 40mm thread as commercial ones. For about £15 you can get full particle/vapour/gas/everything filters that are pretty much full NBC ones, might get a few for the happening some day maybe.

I guess you've have your TA mask and filters?
