Hi all. I had my first crash earlier, luckily I'm okay and so is the bike. I had to go to work right after, I had a pretty bad headache and I guess a bit of concussion cause I can only remember bits and bobs. My hand is scraped a little bit just below my knuckles where my gloves have no padding and my leg is pretty sore (I'm sure that'll feel worse in the morning!), but I was wearing all my gear so I'm in pretty decent shape.

Basically I was coming off an A road approaching a roundabout, which wasn't clear so I had to break. I should add that you can't see what's coming around the roundabout until really late on because there's a wall in the way. What I didn't see, however, is two small circle's of paint (maybe around 5-8 cm wide) right in the middle of the lane. They weren't marking's, they were just there randomly. Anyway my front end just went and I skidded a long with the bike which ended up landing on my leg. Luckily it's pretty light. Okay so, the bike has a scratched bar end and one of the rear indicator's is very loose. There's also a small scratch near the front set.

One very helpful person stopped to help me, and another stopped to ask if I was okay. For some reason (I guess shock?) I didn't think to ask for the guys number, so I can't prove I had an accident. Anyway I'm gonna call up the council to let them know that there's paint there cause I doubt I'd be the last person to do this.

Worth going down the hospital and getting checked over if you experienced memory loss or headaches and concussion after mate - just to be safe

Good to hear you and the bikes alright though Thumbs Up

Thanks. Yeah, a lot of people at work were saying I should too. I can't think of anything worse than waiting around A&E for 3 hours or something stupid. I dunno, I just hate hospital's.

I think I'm fine, my headache has gone and I've just eaten a fucking MASSIVE pizza. Laughing

I'd go tonight, probably won't be too bad a wait. If there is anything up the last thing you want is to be down there friday or saturday night instead Razz

Honda CBF 125. The indicator's stick out really far on it so they took most of the damage.

Thanks Smile

Ok, head aches last a while longer and I don't have a glass jaw etc... but only time I had concussion coming off a bike, I fell off the back of a wheelie as the bike went vertical at 60-70mph.
I then rolled on my head and shoulders in a not-perfect fitting helmet.

To be fair, I only had it checked out because the head aches were going on for so long and I wanted an MRI - they gave me an XRay, when I already knew my skull it's self was still in one piece.

If you don't get concussed particularly and have memory loss, it probably is worth getting it checked out, though they'll likely just say "sure, it's fine".

On the other hand, I had a concussion with memory loss, went to A&E (a neighbour took me) and they wanted to keep me in overnight for observation. I signed a form to be released after they had done some checks, but they did take it seriously, and advised against me releasing myself early. Maybe it depends on the severity/level of symptoms.

Chances are you'll be fine, but worth getting checked.

I can't think of anything worse than not surviving the night if it could be prevented.

Sorry, edited to say "sure, it's fine", which I meant to say... they will take it seriously, but hopefully will give a clean bill of health, which as above, is much better than not going and finding there's a problem.

Only time I haven't been taken seriously by A&E was when I went in with signs of DVT. Doctor wasn't convinced but did tests on me anyway. Went back to work or whatever, when I got home found an apologetic message on the answer phone asking me to call them urgently - as it turns out I was right and the tests confirmed what I thought.
The proper ultrasound I had off the back off that showed it wasn't anything to worry about in the end.

You can report it online, and I would because I'd expect there's less chance of the report getting "lost".

My experience is that they observe in the morning if you're dead or potato, and if not, on your way.

Do go though, it's educational, like watching "Blue Light Slapheads" in 3D smellovision.

Glad to hear your ok OP and your gear did its job. Hope you make a full recovery. I think the odd spill is almost a necessity on two wheels. The hardness of Tarmac has sure bought me down a well needed peg or two over the years. Just try to keep them small. Don't let it knock your confidence and use any nervousness you've gained to your advantage when riding.

Just out of interest. How far into your journey were you? Feel free to bump the 2014 spill counter:

Thanks for the link. I've just sent a couple of faults. One of them is that some cunt has gone all the way up this road near where I live and broke glass bottles or something all the way up the road. Dicks.

Thank you. Yeah I knew I was probably gonna crash eventually, I plan on riding for the rest of my life so it's kind of a given. I wasn't riding like a dick, I was just slowing down for a roundabout but I guess I could have avoided it if I was more careful and aware. I wasn't far into my journey, I was just on my way home to pick something up from work so I'd probably traveled about 2 miles, and after 5-10 minutes of calming down I rode another few miles to get home. I feel fine this morning by the way, my legs hurts a little but it's not really anything to moan about.

I did have an awful dream last night though, it was like a falling dream where you wake up and throw yourself as if you're falling, only I was reliving the moment when the bike went over. Scary shit. Laughing

Glad you're not too badly hurt,

I went on a speed awareness course (speeding) and the guy there said they design roundabouts deliberately to be like that so it forces you to slow. The added paint spills were probably not part of the design.

You could be being a bit previous there, I mean he hasn't posted since and that was nearly three months ago.

Maybe he suffered an acute subdural haematoma and died.

How do people even come across these threads? Either they're procrastinating to the max and clicking through each page or they just search "crash" hoping to play white knight for the day and try to make someone feel better.

You. Dropped. Your. Bike.

There's a BIG difference; one that, chances are in the real world, you're unfortunately going to find out.

That said, the best of luck to you.
