First off. Had the dubious pleasure of filtering through traffic on the A406 when I had a car pull out on me with absolutely no warning, signalling or run up - just slammed me straight off the bike.

Broken wrist, knackered YBR125, scuffed helmet, and most irritatingly of all, had to cancel my mod 2 I was taking this week. On the plus side the driver responsible done all the right things, called police ambulance etc.

Very painful, but a good reminder why I wear the protective gear - aside from the wrist I've got some bruising but that's about it.

Here's hoping they can repair me little bike, kind of attached to the little old thing!

I've made a similar mistake, where a car decided it had enough of waiting in traffic and wanted to make a u-turn, I failed to anticipate he was going to make u-turn while filtering on the right side and he didn't look in his mirrors and wasn't indicating.

Luckily I was only doing around 10mph and I only bent my handlebars and scruffed my fairing. His car was worse (mirror came off, door dented and scratched and some how his wheel cap came off?) but he agree'd that we'd fix our own vehicles.

It's a shame your YBR's fucked but, if he's claimed responsibility and doesn't decide to blame you, it shouldn't be too much headache from this point onwards and you should get some money towards a new bike.

Also, a paint image of what happened please or you're lying, obviously.

YOU made a mistake?

I bet he fucking did - he should have fixed yours!

If he wildly hooks a U-turn with no mirror, signal, blind-spot check, then it's his fault!

I called up a solicitor who said it would be a shared blame, so it wasn't worth the headache, we both agree'd to fix our own vehicles. Apparently having a crash while filtering doesn't typically go the bikers way. It was only minor damage to my bike so it didn't bother me too much.

Yup, got to draw a pretty picture for the solicitors, so I'll be sure to post it here as well. Considering it'll be left handed and I'm utterly crap at art I think we're all in for a treat.

Filtering can be a grey area sometimes but if he's pulled a U-turn from a stationary position it's a straight forward 100% in your favour! Would the car behind in the queue not act as a witness?

Laughing

Be sure to carefully illustrate the queues of beaten up Honda Civics and Rover 25's on the 406 too

Hope you and little YBR recover soon. Where did it happen on the N Circ? I ride it every morning on my big ol' bus of a Honda CB1300.

I take the north circular home at night because it's easier to filter through than the A40 through Acton, but the drivers are way worse, I'm finding. I've had a couple of near ones on there. Plus, I think with the lighter traffic because of the mid-term break, it's actually more dangerous for us. The cars are moving quicker and have more room to do their random death dances.

I had a near miss on Holloway Road yesterday, which on a normal day is so chock-o-block you're lucky to filter at walking pace. But yesterday, it was moving along when a car to my right decided at the very last second to bang a left across a bus lane.

I can imagine the thought process: There's nothing in bus lanes but buses right? I don't need to look carefully because, you know, how can you miss a bus? Quick cursory glance over the shoulder and go for it...

Yup, was on the north circular, and as you say, it's a hellish road to get through, people just seem to give zero fucks on certain stretches. I'm looking forward to a bigger bike, if nothing else so that I'm a bit more visible (Who'd of thought you'd miss having hazard lights?)

TBH once I'm up and running on a full license I'll be tempted to take the A12, M25 and M4 to get to my destination - more miles, but hopefully much less filtering through the more murdery roads.

I heard different on a thread some time ago - same thing happened but the court decided that a) filtering was legal and b) hooking round without indicating or checking mirrors was driving without due care. Filtering biker won.

Glad your ok though, probably not too pricey to fix your bike and saves an insurance claim Thumbs Up

I'm not normally pro-claim, but how are you getting to work? Are you going to have to take unpaid time off? Pay for prescription meds? What if there are long term insert wank joke complications?

With respect, you're a mug to have let that one go. I hope for your sake that your insurers don't get in touch to ask why you concealed from them that you ploughed into a stationary car and inflicted Double Bastard Whiplash to the poor innocent occupant, who now has no choice but to claim against you.

Got to agree with Roger... Much as it's a pain in the arse (And trust me, right now I know how much of a pain in the arse it is!) you should let the insurers know, if only to head off a sneaky counter claim.
