 |
|
Hey all,
I've just passed my A2 license and I'm getting my first big bike on Saturday! (The ER6-F). As I only have an A2 I am getting it restrcited.
I was just wondering what my next cause of action is because I am so confused on the way it works.
Do I wait until I've been riding 2 years and it automatically get's upgraded?
OR
Do I re-take the test as soon as I'm 24?
Thanks all. ____________________ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/SuperBradio

I'm just going to unrestrict the bike when the times due. My main question was do I have to do another test or can I just wait until the 2 years is up?
@Dydey90 - That is exactly my position! I wanted to do it years ago but just put it off until September when I did my CBT! ____________________ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/SuperBradio

Awesome thanks George. Do you have to take the Mod1 and Mod2 again or just Mod2? ____________________ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/SuperBradio

It's so bad that you have to re-take it even though it's only 10bhp more than the original. As if that really makes a difference with the British speed limits. ____________________ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/SuperBradio

Congratulations on the test pass.

Not even necessary. The ER is restricted with a throttle stop screw and an ECU plug-in module (that I believe just shorts out a diagnostics loop rather than capping the revs).
So you can realistically unrestrict / re-restrict it in the car park.
By "realistically" I mean you can fiddle around under the plastics and seat for 5 minutes then say "Is full power now, look, here be screw and dongle", job done. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

| Bradio wrote: | @rogerborg - Thanks! I was just wondering actually. How would they even know that the bike has been unrestricted? You have a certificate to say it has been unrestricted but, as far as I know, there isn't any way for them to check if it is a bigger bike right? |
Their published position is that if you turn up on a ER6 to do a 35kW A2 test, then they'll want to see documentary evidence that it's been restricted.
The plain inference is that they assume that an ER6 is 40kW+ unless you prove otherwise.
You might be asked how you got it there legally, which is where the mate rode it / van / trailer / just de-restricted it story comes in.
There's no way that they'll be able to tell that an ER6 is restricted to 35kW during a full A test, since all the restrictor does is to limit the throttle, which you'll likely be doing yourself anyway while on test. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
