Thinking of buying a new R6. Have test ridden and liked very much. It's just the lowish torque at slow speeds concerns me a bit. Compared with my 2011 Gixxer 600 it is mild mannered in town which I suppose is not a bad thing in the wet. Really sings at higher revs. Handling is great. Anyone got any thoughts to help me make up my mind whether to buy as the price is really very good Question

The amount of fix my R6 threads popping up lately I would give it serious consideration......
They may have improved dramatically the last couple years but maybe not.....

Not too worried about when it does not go, with a warranty - it's the going I'm more concerned about Laughing

2011 gsxr to 2014 r6 isn't a very big difference? Is it really worth the extra money? Not in my opinion.

If you've got the money go for it, dont kid yourself that the performance is that much better on the road though because it isn't.

They do look the sex though Wink

Have not got the Gixxer any more but I miss it. Just fancy a change this time. Riding an SV650S at the moment.

Have you test ridden anything bigger? I'd be testing a GSXR750 and possibly even and R1 or similar. Not necessarily because I wanted to buy one, but because I'd want to compare it to the R6, and see if I wouldn't be happier with a jump in power while forking out for a new bike.

I went a bit mental on the Gixxer so I think I'll stay with 600s. Just want to make sure the R6 is as good as it appeared on a 30 minute test ride. If I rode a litre bike I'd probably not have a licence much longer to ride anything Embarassed Problem with fast bikes is that you tend to push them to their limits - the faster it can go the faster you go. Twisted Evil

Have they restricted the newer R6's then? My old one was more than mental enough to risk loss of licence? Confused

Fail to see how a 600 is going to save your license any less than a 1000.

What's the top end on an R6? 165mph odd? Top end on an R1? 185mph odd?

Not much in it really and when the fuck are you going to be doing 160mph+ on the road anyway?

R6, R1, same thing for losing your license, might as well get an R1.

Thumbs Up

Exactly. Any sports 600 will do 60 in around 3 seconds, and hitting the power in any gear is getting you into speeding/license losing territory. Surely if you can tame a 600 you can tame a 1000.

I've probably come close to losing licence on my 600 more often than the 1000s...

Fair points about the R1 except in this case it would cost me an extra £4k and that would be for power I would rarely use. The question is whether to go for the R6 or not.

Then, you would use the R1's usable low down power all the time.

FWIW, I rode my R1 like granny on the motorway to get to Plymouth and head on a ferry to Spain.

I got 200 miles to 15 litres. That is nearly double what I got on my 600RR riding sane.

I put that down to the lazy engine. You don't need to buy brand new, let some other person take the hit.

Laughing Do you pay outright or on finance?

If its finance, there is no real point to buying new, you pay the depreciation and interest, lose/lose.

The R6, get one. If you don't want the R1, you want the R6. Quit crying, go buy it.

If you don't want it, test a few bikes. If you want one of them, buy that.

REALLY SIMPLE YO.

Used sports bikes are often misused. I prefer new. Would still like to hear from someone who knows the R6

With low low interest rates nearly new cost as much as new, rather silly really. Been buying bikes for 40 years now. I know a bargain I think. Need a bit more info before I go for this one.
