Can you please stop advertising your site everywhere, we're all aware of it's existance and the more you pop up new threads about it all the time the less likely people are to want to use your site.

I'd be careful... this is exactly the sort of thing people won't like.

Also it will probably be gone from the first page within the night unless you actually do start a flame war.

IMO the karma system is the collective "make up your own mind". It's not admin' that give you bad karma but the readers themselves.
A much better solution would be to more discretely but a link in the link section and add a link to your signature.

You say you have been "bad Karma'd" off the site, presumably for spamming the forum with stuff about your site. So the first thing you do upon re-registering is to post a great long thread plugging your site again?

You say you want to be able to contribute other things as well, then do so. 4 out of the 5 posts made on your username relate to your website so it does seem to be the case that your only interest in this forum is to promote your own site.

I'm sorry if I've upset anyone, that wasn't the intention. Sad

I'm just after trying to put something back into bike racing. Very Happy

I'm not trying to take on ebay, that's an impossibility. Wink

I'm not making peoples minds up for them, they can do that. Confused

The site is for bikers to sell and buy and to put money back into biking through the minimal fees charged.

I don't expect to make money myself, so it's not a business I'm advertising.

I know it's a forum and the reasons that we all use it. One of those reasons is to check out what's on offer to us all. If we don't like the post then we don't have to read it, do we?

I'm struggling with this "big brother" ethic on the site. I'm not being offensive and as far as I am concerned this is not "spam". If anyone feels it is then just ignore it, as I do if I read anything that I don't agree with.

I've done the link in the signature thing, and I've added a BCF banner ad to the site, it's a two way thing.

In conclusion: I have put this in two places on this site and thats it. I won't earn money from the site and hopefully, some racers may have a better season because of it. So, rather than using your finger to rate the post, use it to close it and open another one because others may want to see it if you don't

Respectfully yours

You already made your point in exchange and mart, and by and large you got away with it.

Disobeying your own post by mentioning it again is unsolicited and might be considered as junk.

Stop mentioning it, and if you're looking at this as a commercial venture then all I can say is "Good luck" cos you are going to need it.

Alienating people is not good business. And 10% isn't exactly the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...

If you actually read the post through you'd see that all the profit is going to "adopt-a-racer".

It would be nice if it could be a "pot of gold" and the only way that'll happen is if people list stuff.

Look, it's NOT a commercial venture, I never expected to earn from it. As a racer I'm always looking at ways to get money into club racing. I've spent a fair amount of my own money getting this up and running and, as sad as it is, just want it to be a success for the reasons I've already mentioned.

What you could do, would be to give it a go, it may actually work for you, and as I said it costs NOTHING.

Once again, respectfully yours

Well I think your site looks real nice although very little to buy..... I would love to be able to go back a few years and see what ebay looked like at the beginning Embarassed pretty poor I imagine.

As a failed Ebuisness owner my opinion may carry little weight but the key is advertising.......and with a venture like yours you would need to be spending a couple of grand a month minimum to make it happen initially and a shed load more later on. Google adwords are a damn good start point.

Cheers m8, it's nice to get a bit of constructive criticism.

If you see the thread in the E&M section you'll see that I've tried with advertising on a large scale, and I also advertised on the IOM during TT fortnight.

This is one of the reasons I put it on here, and other forums.

It's whole point is to help bikers sell and buy gear at very little cost and to put the profit back into club racing.

In essence, if all those on forums listed their stuff it would be a very busy auction site.

So give it a go. Spend time constructively rather than slagging me off Crying or Very sad

Ok then Ste, we're not going to agree on this, are we? I don't why you're so vehemently against this.

Why do you keep banging on about "spam"? I've told you why I'm doing it, and it's not doing you any harm, is it?

If you don't like it, just look elsewhere, others may want to use it, especially if there's any racers using this forum.

I said earlier, I am only going to mention this now so everyone can take a gander and make up their own minds, which is the point of a forum, is it not?

Respectfully yours

If the BCF logo was a jpeg then I could enlarge properly, but it's a bitmap. The logo doesn't have a "title" so that's why it doesn't say what it's purpose is and it works in the same way that the banner ads do on this site, so it will only come up randomly. Very Happy

I don't think his inital post was really spam, it is of use to us as it is something we may well use. It's well placed spam anyway, as in, to the right audience and right area.

I think storm, the reason people are getting pissed off is because you KEEP posting it and mentioning it, for the sake of not losing a load of potential "customers" I suggest you have this thread deleted, and DONT post any more adverts, a link on the links section, the single post in E&M, a link in your signature will suffice and do a BETTER job than what you are doing at the moment.

Also, PM Korn to ask for a proper forum banner, he will be glad to give you a copy of the sites banner for you to change the poor quality logo you currently have.

More than often, subtle advertising works better than in-your-face advertising Smile

For example, look at the "lucky" campaigns they ran on TV, billboards etc.. started off as a poster of a wanted advert for a lost dog called lucky and no other details, people are like WTF?? about 2 weeks later it's revealed who the advert is for Wink and now nearly everyone that watches TV can think of the advert I'm on about! Wink

That be how advertising works at it's prime Smile People don't like to be inforced with adverts to do this, do that, go here, go there etc and thus /won't/ go there. All I'm saying is, if you keep posting the ad, people won't bother with your site, if you keep it a bit more subtle and less posts, then people will think "hmm I could list my bike on bikebidder".

p.s. haven't really looked at your site yet, but do you charge listing fees and final value fees?? If so, abolish the fees, people will NOT pay to use a site that is more than likely /not/ (yet Wink ) going to sell their goods.

If listing fees are free then I will list my bike for sale on your site tonight Smile But until you have thousands of hits, thousands of items for sale and lots of items selling, then sorry but I would rather pay ebay fee money rather than bikebidder soley because I'm 10000 times more likely to sell on ebay.

If it's free to list, then I've got nowt to lose! so will list and may well sell it, which will help your auction site grow.

Cheers Yams and point taken.

It is free to list with four photos included, and you could win a mini-moto just for registering. Wink

It's not as sophisticated as e-bay so don't expect it to be all singing and all dancing. It is practical and the listings are well laid out.

Thanks to everyone who's thrown in their 2pen'orth on this.
