Hi all new to this forum.

I have just changed my bike from a Kawasaki 2006 ER6F to a new 2013 ER6F and have found a lot more wind noise.

Has any body else noticed this and what have they done about it.

Would a double bubble airflow type screen work ??

I await your response

Dave

The correct solution for wind noise is earplugs. If you're not wearing earplugs and you do significant mileage at higher speeds, you're going to get permanent hearing loss.

Probably the reason for increased wind noise is more turbulence from the screen, and that's probably (I hope) because the screen is blocking off more of your body, moving the turbulence from your chest / neck area to your helmet. That's conjecture based on the ER6f having pretty dreadful wind protection in earlier models - anything above 80mph was pretty unpleasant.

(I solved that problem by getting a VFR instead.)

I should add that things you can do about it include getting a different screen and / or a touring bolt-on extension, but asking other people about them probably won't be as helpful as you think - you'll probably have to buy something and try it out - because it's highly dependent on your height, riding position, helmet etc. It's normally turbulent air that's noisiest, which means both a shorter or a taller screen could be better.

I've got a 2012 and found it loud. The cheap tests.. Earplugs (as said) should be the first thing to try. The other thing is to try wearing a oxford comfy/snood or something like that. I found the wind was hitting my chest and going up into my lid. You can test this by moving your hand around the base of lid at speed.

If this doesn't work then it might be worth trying a touring screen. I bought a double bloody bubble ( Laughing for the vlogger haters) but found it made no difference.

Does the 2013 have an adjustable screen? Try it in all 3 positions. My best results are when the screen is at it's lowest, wearing a comfy around my neck, tucked into my jacket and lid while wearing ear plugs.

All of this was with a nolan n90. My shoei xr1100 is quieter anyway, but still need ear plugs as standard.

Thread got moved.

Earplugs for sure, you can also try a Stop Wind which I found helped a bit.

The experience of shoving your head into it is rather like trying to be unborn though.

The reviews on sportsbikeshop aren't great, do you find it stays on your lid passed 50mph?

"RIDING: F650GS twin, Royal Enfield Bullet Electra Deluxe"

Come off it, 50mph on either of those is likely to result in engine failure.

Cheeky monkey, Ze Beemer once saw 58mph while overtaking a tractor in a NSL. Folded arms

Ah, thinking about it, the one I had was Wind Jammer branded. That stayed on just fine up to the limits of... oh... my 125. Thinking

Duck tape FTW either way.

ER6F wind noise.

Many thanks for the feed back.
Yes i do and have always worn earplugs.

I have tried lowest & highest settings for the screen but no difference

I have also chosen to wear a neck head warmer but still no good.

My old 2006 ER6F had a fixed screen flush with the fairing the new model is adjustable but has gaps either side and at the front with a different profile at the top edge.

Back to you all

Get Blue-Peter on it.
Old pop and or milk-bottles; scissors, and gaffer tape.
Chop strips and make spoilers; stick to screen.
Move them around.
Find what works.
Use results of experiment to weigh-up after-market alternative screens or deflectors, as permenant solution... or make your own..

Cured the wind noise and buffeting problem I had by changing my helmet. Just saying...

Wind jammer is really good and sticky. Has stayed on above 100 on private land, though I've heard if you try it on the road it'll fall off at 71.

Recently took mine off because when I birthed my head through it it pulled out my self mounded ear plugs. It's going back on tonight and I'm going back to foam ear plugs.

Are they that good? I would have thought moulded earplugs would do more than anything else.
With regards to skirts for lids.. I was looking online, I can get one that is actually for my lid (xr1100) clicky. I might give that a go.

Wind noise is hardly a problem specific to just a bike. The wind noise is a combination of factors:

1.) The bike, it's shape and how tall the screen is
2.)Your helmet, what angle it sits on your head and whether it catches the airflow from 1.
3.) The rider, how tall they are, how they sit etc.

My suggestion at this point would be to try a couple of different lids to see if that makes a difference.

I purchased the Wind Jammer II after finding my new Shark helmet had tons of noise coming from under the helmet - in Winter this wasn't too bad with thick layers on but as it's warmer I have been wearing less increasing the gap under my helmet.

It is ace and stops 3/4 of the noise from under the helmet, but it is quite warm...

An easy way to check is to stick your hand around your neck to see if noise is reduced, or to raise your shoulders a lot.
