MOT Confusion

Me again...

So I am hopefully near the end of putting my GSXR back on the road. It will be eligible for a daytime MOT.

I have spoken to my insurance and they do not require it to be MOT'd after the total loss but advise it.

I will deco be getting it MOT'd but not be able to straight away. Can I legally ride it on the old one even if I have taken all lights off the bike?

No MOT needed, would not bother.

I've removed lights after MOT and added them after MOT. I've never bothered, MOT is valid on day of test only anyway really....

Yeah I thought as much.

I just know I will be pulled by the Rozzas due to my bike and just wanted to see if it was a legal thing to get that re-done.

Also I am not painting it yet. Its mainly white with a black tank.. Should I be doing a colour change? I don't want to change to white as I don't know what I will be painting it to yet!

Surely your old MOT is not a daylight MOT? If you've removed the things which were required for the standard MOT, then it now needs a DAYLIGHT MOT, which you don't have.

How would you know if it complies with the law of Daytime MOT requirements, without ever being tested for it?

There is no daylight MOT. It has an advisory for lights not tested.

Ah, OK, good info - cheers. I always thought they were different.

How would you know your bike's still legal though, without being tested, if you remove stuff?

Say, the OP removed the brake light or speedo? What do you need,
is it just a front and rear operated brake light and a speedo of some sorts?

An MOT doesn't tell you if the bike is legal, just whether it is roadworthy. For example, the speedo is not tested on the MOT, but it is illegal to ride without one.

See, OP is keeping a brake light, which does break the daytime MOT reg, but he doesn't care

You need a speedo, doesn't have to work though.. Just be present.
A horn.
A number plate.

Having one light technically means all lights, people do ignore this, doubt they'll get prosecuted but they cry about people not knowing they are braking, don't brake, get in front of cars, simple as.
