Hi all, Can I get some advice please?

I took the bike out for a ride yesterday to Poole quay for the bike night (about 55 miles there). We had a look around and when I got back to the bike there was petrol dripping from somewhere.

I couldnt see any obvious split pipes so started the bike up and it sounded like it was only running on 3 cylinders. I had no choice as i needed to get back so rode back carefully, after about a minute of riding it seemed to start firing on all 4. I thought I'd better stop at mates place half way back for a coffee. I stayed about 10 minutes then checked the bike and no leaking so came home. When i got ack i just put the bike away and left it.

I have checked it today and there is no leaking so I am wondering what has happened Question

A guy I was with thinks the carbs may have got filled with petrol and it came out the overflow. Is this possible?? The bike was sat on a slight incline with the front higher than the back.

I will put it into a garage in the next day or two to get checked but thought it might be wise to ask for some advice first.

Thanks

Si

Probably got a bit of crap temporarily stopping a needle valve from working.

If you've got an inline fuel filter, change it; if you haven't, fit one.

Also check the inside of your tank for rust and, if your bike spends periods of time unused, keep the tank full.

No reason why you should. Can't think of any situation where a loose sparkplug could cause a petrol leak when parked.

Anyhow, your friend is probably right in suggesting a stuck float needle. Another option is if your bike has a vacuum-operated tap and the diaphragm has a pinhole in it. If it happens again, check if the cylinder which is not firing is the same one that has a vac take-off on the carb for the fuel tap.

Thanks for the replies, I will have a proper look at it over the weekend if I get the time and try and find out what's going on.

Thumbs Up
