I have had my Triumph speedmaster go wrong at 12,000 miles it has had the bottom end go after such short amount of time. The bike is 5 months out of it's warrenty and they have said it is just one of those things. I am still trying to get this sorted and i hope that triumph will do the right thing. So far this is the second big thing that i have go wrong on the bike as the ECU went at around 7,000 miles.

Any body else had problems with Triumph

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll fit right in.

What do you mean by "bottom end go"? What exactly has happened to it?

Always been fine for me, I would keep pressure up, threaten taking it to the press etc. It shouldn't do that and 5 months out of warranty I would still expect them to repair that kind of damage. Ask them if the ECU blowing could have fucked the bottom end, probably not but it would be impossible for them to prove.

Assuming you have a full Triumph Service history I would be surprised if they don't do it as a goodwill gesture.

Independent garage.
Get an assessment of the problem, the engine's condition, and the likely cause.
Get a quote for repairs.
Take it from there, depending on what they say. If you don't like the answer, consider taking it elsewhere and getting another opinion.

If you choose not to do any of that, then good luck with asking Triumph pretty-please, because it'll be your uninformed opinion against their disinterested one.

Problems with Triumph? Their reputation is one of the reasons why I don't buy (another) one of their bikes. I'd love a ST but owning a daytona 675 & the faults that came with it puts me right off.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but the more I hear of the big name bike manufacturers like Harley Davidson and Triumph, the more I vow never to buy one as they seem to me, to be cashing in on their name, selling average build bikes for over the odds prices with a "take it or leave it" attitude when it comes to aftercare.

A mate of mine bought a Fat Bob and the Harley dealer who he bought it off really dicked him around when buying it yet he still persisted with them when I personally would have walked. Another mate bought a V-Rod which has spent more time in the garage than on the road.

I've never had a problem with Triumph and I've owned quite a number of them (4).

Two of them had what I would call major issues, both bikes were out of warranty and both bikes were fixed because both of the issues were recall issues. Triumph fixed both of them free of charge.

Out of all of the manufacturers I'd say they aren't the most reliable or the best built, but in general I've never had any reason to fault their customer service.

That was only on the 800cc triples IIRC, the OP has a Speedmaster which is a Bonneville based twin.

I had a new cylinder head, ECU and center stand on the Explorer and a new cylinder head and ECU on the Trophy.

My Triumph dealer called me, arranged everything and the bikes came back cleaned. I can't complain about Triumphs customer service.

Possibly quality control on Triumphs could be better but I've now had 3 and I'm pretty happy with them. Would I change, yes, but I stay with a bike until I want a change and I'm quite happy changing brands.

I'm on my third hinckley triumph and would have no hesitation buying another

I would be choosy about which dealer though, some of them seem to think it's up to them whether something is warrantable or not, personally I'd make sure triumph had been consulted

I'm sure the OP will return to this thread he posted with more details about the nature of his breakdown. After all, it's his first and only thread and surely no-one would join a forum soley to air a grudge?

Indeed, and he's doubtless busy beavering away constructively at the checklist I provided rather than investing his time pissing and moaning ineffectually to anyone who will listen.

Ah, they must be subsiduarys who transform mainstream Hondas and Yamahas into 'ratbikes' and 'dead bikes' .

Nope ... but I don't buy bikes simply for their name and to belong to some sort of exclusive "club" like Harley riders do, then get dicked on prices and customer satisfaction when I want some kind of customer service or replacement parts.

That'd be me who transforms them into rat and dead bikes Wink
