Scamera van - what would you do?

Hypothetical scenario, assuming most of you enjoy your licences and riding your bikes.

You come round a large radius bend, doing about 80-90 on a 60 road, proceed to accelerate out of the bend into triple figures onto a long straight. You see a camera van just on the distance, a glistening silver beacon of oppression.

You slam your brakes on, but you don't know if you've had time to slow before it's got you (there's a chance it may not have between the visibility of the cars on the other side of the road).

You have time to stop before you reach the van, and thus before it sees your plate.

How do you proceed? Bear in mind you love your bike...

As most vans only take front on shots, I wouldn't be too worried.

It's only after I rode passed it and realised it was one of the fecking side and rear camera jobbies that I'd start to wish I'd just stopped!

I value my licence enough to not be a div and do it where I know I won't be caught.

If you want to do triple figures, do it on a track.

OP are you looking for the, 'slow down to 20 start looking for a side street, pretend to break down by said side street, push bike in reverse to side street' reaction just before it miraculously comes back to life, and you proceed on your new route as you are already off the main road?

I'd probably do that.

Most of the ones I've seen have cameras on both sides...

I saw a guy once put his boot over his number plate as he went past it. Would this be classed as perverting course of justice?

I'm pretty sure all efforts to avoid the camera getting your plate would be classed as such.

Turn round and ride the other way. No provoking a perverting charge, they might be close enough to get your plate clearly, they might not, but it's worth a try.

Throttle off, slow down then clutch in and coast past it quietly.

They would have heard you coming about ten miles off, probably laughing hysterically and rubbing each other's tiny genitals at the prospect of getting a nasty biker done.

But then, I have heard a story of someone who passed one in a 50 immediately after a sweeping bend, at more than 80mph. Nothing happened to him.

I think it's testament to just how much more people hate the police scammers than speeding motorists by how many times you do get flashed and warned by other road users. I've had my licence saved by this once before.

They were probably tugging each other off at the sound of my GSXR on full throttle approaching.

They are often on a road near my house on my daily commute, I can get up that road at a fair whack if I want to and the traffic is on my side, I have been caught previously on there doing 36 in a 30, got the speed course for it. now the other day they were there and I spotted them in time I think. I was definitely below the speed limit as I passed them.

My question is if they capture you speeding head on but then get a piccy of your plate as you have passed can you be done if you wasn't speeding as their camera got your reg plate.

Does the reg plate have to be on the speeding evidence picture?

I would guess they can't do a thing unless they get reg and speed.

I would stop. And wheel the bike back around the bend, backwards, and then when out of sight, turn it around and drive off.

I got caught coming up a road doing over 30, and ended up with 3 points and a fine. A couple of months later, It was in the exact same place, just under a bridge, and even though I was possibly speeding at the time, I just turned off before going passed it.

Really annoyed at myself for not doing it the first time, honestly.

I found that slowing down has little effect, as I saw one on a motorway bridge in the distance a few weeks ago and slowed down to a more sensible speed thinking I'd be fine and I just got a NIP for doing 90 on the M6.
