My Z1000 doesn't get used too often now as my daily commute is an SH300. Unfortunately lack of use has killed the battery, it will not hold any charge.

As lithium ones need a lot less charge to start up, would that be a better choice?

Here's one on eBay for £55. Any recommendations or advice please?

I didn't know you could get them, got to be interesting for a vehicle that might go flat because you are often away or whatever.
Wonder how they cope with jump leads?
The price is reasonable really, so long as the expected life is similar.

Using the correct charger you can charge the battery within 6minutes (to 90%) ? That's insane. I didn't realise this kind of tech was out for bikes. But price is reasonable, but I'd be dubious about the claims, surely if it was as good as the description makes it appear, it'd be far more common?

I'd be VERY wary of exposing a Lithium battery to the vaguaries of a motorcycle charging system. These things need careful monitoring of the charge rate or they will set themselves nicely on fire! No doubt a lithium type charger could be introduced between the output of the reg/rec and the battery, but is it really worth it?

Don't forget lead acid has dangers too, but this type of battery will need a balancer - which is something 'new' on a vehicle to go wrong over time and bikes will give them an especially hard time.

Any lithium battery sold for bike use should have integrated protection.

I would be cautious with cheap lithium batteries, however.

I'd just get a lead acid one and a cheap trickle charger or similar - which is useful to have anyway.

Lithium batteries have various disadvantages which means we won't be seeing them fitted to your average bike for a while yet - especially when overall manufacturers are trying to cut costs, making bikes heavier - rather than making them higher spec at a higher price point.

think this is the bit to read :-
"lead provides two things that lithium currently cannot - the surge of power needed to fire up your engine, and incredible durability over thousands of cycles of the battery, no matter how hot or cold the weather."

Interesting article indeed, and what's more interesting is that this lithium could run out sooner than oil does? I mean it's not a renewable energy source is it?

Interesting article indeed, seems like lithium could run out faster than oil. I mean there's not huge quantities of it is there?
