Thoughts on Kevlar hoodies?

Evening all,
just bought another pair of kevlar jeans as I've had good experience with them in the past and think they suit the style of my hornet better than a leather 2-piece (IMO). When buying them i saw that a brand produce a kevlar lined hoodie, with shoulder, elbow and back protection, all of it the standard CE foam padding. Just wondered whether anyone had any experience or knows whether this kind of bike attire really isn't the way to go.

I've got a decent leather jacket at the moment, just looking for some new gear. Obviously a bit more casual. If i did buy it then i would get a proper body armour piece to go underneath the hoodie to give that extra bit of protection.

It came up recently. If this is for summer use, then be aware that what you're buying is a thick, double layered garment. The armour will also do a decent job at thermally insulating you.

I have a kevlar lined "long sleeved t-shirt" (read: jumper) that I bought on a whim for summer use. In practice, I wear a lightweight leather/textile mix jacket instead as it's better vented and actually cooler (although a bit heavier). There's a very small window where the shirt feels like the best solution.

The zipper on that hoodie will make it more flexible, granted.

What's to stop it riding up your back in an off?

Just wear a regular one and don't fall off

For armour and abrasion resistant material to work it's best it needs to be held fairly tightly on the skin.
Suspect that's not so likely to be the case with a hoodie.

Yeah I would be buying it for summer, but like you say I can imagine a thick black hoodie would just be a sweatsuit in the sun.

I'm still keen to get one, just think I'd definitely have to get the under armour too, as like you say the hoodie could ride up in an off

Well I usually wear a hoodie underneath and the hood isn't bad. Good shout about wearing a hoodie over my jacket. Could do the job just right

I wear a mesh long sleeve/long sleeve/hoodie over my leathers whenever i wear them depending on the temperature. Keeps flys off in summer. Warm in winter. And look less of a power ranger The kevlar hoodies an interesting concept but I cant see much benefit vs hoodie over leathers or whatever you wear already.

The aim of it really would just to have something I can put on if I go somewhere on my bike, that looks casual as opposed to a big leather jacket.

Can't say I'd feel too comfortable wearing one except on a moped... and even then.

I'd rather have a mesh jacket that can connect to some kevlar jeans to stop it riding up. More likely to be cooler with a tshirt and mesh jacket than with a hoody I'd have thought, much more breathable.

I always wear a hoodie over my leather jacket. Keeps me warm.

Just wear a motorcycle jacket? If you can turn up in a hoodie you can sure as hell turn up in a leather/textile jacket.

A kevlar suit would probably be more useful.

I've got a Kevlar hoody that I bought if the Aussie Bikers site. Its pretty substantial, but the armour was that foam crap that is apparently CE approved. Its quite heavy so defeats the object of having a cool summer jacket. I could imagine it riding up the back in an off too.
