Hey everyone,

I have read a lot of this forum as I am doing my CBT in a couple of weeks and will then move onto Direct Access almost immediately after.

I am going about purchasing basic kit like a helmet, biker jeans, leather jacket etc but I am struggling with boots. I want to be safe and protect myself but at the same time I have a limited budget and would prefer boots that were a little less bulky.

I have found these RST Urban 1501 motorbike boots that are almost like trainers and I wondered what you seasoned bikers think about them.

I have no biking experience so I have nothing to go on other than other peoples opinions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Martin

There are lots of 'street' boots out there to choose from, these do seem to offer very little protection over just wearing trainers.

But there is no law to say you can't do that if you want to.

I've got a pair of these:

Alpine Stars SMX2, Which are a pretty good compromise between comfort and protection, but I also have long boots.

They're a bit more than the RSTs though.

Decide what you want from a boot, then buy the best that you can afford would be my advice.

I personally aren't too keen on those as theres no shin and lower leg protection, plenty of people ride with similar and are fine though of course, it comes down to personal preference really.

As an alternative you might be interested in these. They're a little taller than the ones in your OP, but they're not as big and bulky as standard race boots. The lowerfoot area particularly feels like you're wearing normal shoes rather than space-boots as many of the full blown track boots often feel. Same price as those RST ones, and have tested them as being well waterproofed so far. https://www.ghostbikes.com/products/Clearance-Deals-Boots/5037-black-oxygen-elite-motorcycle-boots.html

It doesn't look a great difference in height and bulk in the pics but its noticable when you're wearing them.

Thanks a lot for your views guys. Having listened to you and spoke to a few mates I'm abandoning these in favour of more protection.

I like both options you guys have come up with so I think this kind of in between boot that's not quite so bulky is the one for me
