I think the one good use for posh people is as continuity announcers on the tellybox. Im sick of chirpy cocky little gits with "regional" accents arsing about between programs trying to impress me with their scrotish banter. So, bring back posh people they do the job so much better!

I'm not that bothered, as long as they pronounce H as "aitch" and not "haitch".

Hearing some Geordie say "now coming up in Haitch Dee..." makes me want to blowtorch their face off.

I'm a massive fan of a neutral accent for this purpose.

I don't mean Received Pronunciation (or Queen's English/BBC English or whatever else people call it) although that is very clear and easy to understand.

I just mean a neutral accent, hard to explain it any other way that that. The way I sound in my head. I don't think with an accent or hear my accent when I speak... not that I really have so much of one anymore.

Not a regional accent, just no distinct accent, doesn't make sense when I'm typing, but I know what I mean, and I know some of you will too.

I am fed up of annoying accents, particularly the "Essex giggle" they just grate on me.

Maybe why I like the New Zealand accent so much, because it's a refreshing change, that and they come out with some hilarious ways of saying things.

Like Ben says, maybe more neutral accents than old BBC English accents, but I definitely agree with the sentiment! It's not that I have a problem with (most) regional accents, but when they're used as a marketing point to appeal to the retarded youth of today, get rid!

I also happen to have that 'neutral' accent.

I think my accents neutral but up here in Scotland people can often tell that I grew up in Yorkshire. They then go on to tell me how wonderful Yorkshire is and how they like going there on holiday. So I then recommend they visit Featherstone and Barnsley next time so they can experience some true Yorkshire shit holes.

I agree with Tungtvaan on the marketing of the youth of today regarding accents.

I know too many girls who are like "omg scouse accent is so sexy, scouse lads come at me"

You want to be ragged off some lad just because he has an accent you can tolerate?

I agree TV should generally have neutral accents, and to be honest I think it would be good if it was all BBC English too, because to me that isn't queen's English, it's just well-spoken with no dialect or colloquialisms.

It'll never happen though because in the end TV is just a media commodity that they want to appeal to as many people as possible for the sake of keeping viewers and maintaining ad revenue, so they use regional presenter types to appeal to the public. Well, most channels do that. The BBC should be different but it got a bit trashy at one point and then I stopped watching TV altogether.

I like telling people I'm from Yorkshire but I prefer the plain accent I've evolved since leaving because I feel I can better communicate with people, specially foreigners. Although I do wish more people would understand when I say 'turrah' around here...!

I talk posh, a constant source of surprise when I open my mouth Laughing

I like the lass who does the finance stuff on BBC news but I hear she has had a lot of shite because of her accent.

Here's a compilation of radio 4 continuity announcers, should make you feel better.

Neil Nunes is my favourite voice (2.40). I could listen to him read the shipping forecast every day.

Hearing geordies on the tele makes me cringe, especially that advert with Cheryl Cole in Laughing If could only be worse if she ended it with "because ya worth it, pet"

Hand No. I can't be doing with the silly giggly noises she makes when Chris Evans is blowing smoke up her ass of a morning.
