Considering a NEW bike

So after 2 years on a 2005 CBR 600F, and an awesome job + pay rise, I'm thinking about a new bike on finance / PCP.

I don't really want anything bigger than a 6 /750, there's absolutely no point of a litre bike on UK roads for me, so when I went into a local dealership today I had to really ignore the awesome looks of a brand new blade.

Few bikes caught my eye:

- Ex-display 2014 CBR 600F, 2k miles (£5600)
- New CBR 600 RR (black or repsol, I loved the black actually)

This was just at a Honda dealers, gonna have to go to a local Yamaha one and check out the R6's.

A little sick of having to constantly maintain the old 600F - as in, new exhaust system was required, I just know something's going to go wrong next. I'd like something I don't have to worry about this sort of stuff with - and I'll insist of a free valve clearences service at 12/15k or whatever it is.

Not really sure about it yet - he tried to get me to buy it on the spot (I want 3k for the 600F MINIMUM).

Any other decent 600's I should be considering? I want PCP, £150 p/m over 3 years would be good, 200 the max, with a couple hundred quid deposit.

Thing I love about the 600F is that from what I've been told it has a lot more low down grunt than the 600RR: that starts screaming at 8k+. I *really* want that super rapid 0-60 time. Any other 600 that can match or beat the 600F's lowdown / midrange?

I'm thinking, 600F, 600RR, R6, not sure about GSXR. Any opinions? Not sure what I want from this thread, just to chat about bikes really

EDIT: There's also the Ducati 848 Evo in white that I like the look of - more power, but more awesome. Can't find a finance calculator for this though...

Site looks good, I'm not liking the look of kwaks so I think I'll give them a miss. Is it me or do older models (2011, 2012, 2013 to a lesser extent) look WAY better than 2014 models?

I found this MV Augusta F3 - which only has 28 miles on it, for < 9k. A few questions on this:

Why is the dealer selling this for so much cheaper simply because it has 28 miles on it? Is there possibly something untoward going on here...?

If I were to buy somewhere like that, I wouldn't be taking it for it's service there every time. It'd be local. Would this pose a problem?

Thinking of getting rid of the CBR600F, huh? PM me some details about it as I may (or may not be) in the market for one. Actually, I am in the market for one but am yet to find one that ticks all the boxes.

You could also ask the dealer to replace the new mild steel downpipes, with their insane £500 OEM pricetag, for Motad stainless ones, which are around £170. This way in 10 years time, you wont have to replace them... but I doubt they could be persuaded to discount the difference of £330.

the new 636's look the nuts IMO, shame they have painted the engine cases gold rather than the previous's black though.

What will you be using the bike for? If you will use it mostly for commuting then be realistic. Having commuted on various bikes having a sit up position is much better day to day, especially the little things like having to sit up straight at all traffic lights when youre tired/cant be assed (an annoyance in London due to lights every 50 metres).

I bought a street triple new and unfortunately circumstances meant I had to sell it. Great bike that was more than fast enough and I got an amazing deal at the time. Bought in winter at the height of the 'depression' etc. So the new bike can be a good deal. Play dealers off against each other too. Sometimes its wrth travelling a long distance to pick up a new bike if it saves you £500 etc.

Anyway, narrow down what sort of riding you want to do then go test ride a few bikes. Things to take in to account on new vs nearly new. Consumables and servicing. Is a nearly new bike going to need a service soon, is this going to be part of the price or will this cost you more than buying new combined? Tyres, do they need replacing/will they need to be soon? Are they tyres you dont like and will change immediately anyway?

Don't completely disregard the Blade/R1/other 1000s... true, you can't use all its abilities on the road. But nor can you the CBR600-RR/R6/GSX-R600/750.

They're bigger bikes so generally more comfortable, not so crouched up on it, and much torquier (sp?) more torquey (?) so they're much more rideable lower in the rev range. I'd say at least test ride one, see how you find it compared to the 600.

I'd be tempted to go for a litre even if you might not get the full use of it half the time. Would a KTM RC8 be in budget ?

Think i'd look at something a little different if you're going to efforts of paying finance for the new bike to be honest, perhaps the newer CBRs might be a heap better but i'd be wanting a change

Agree all the newer ZX's look ugly as sin, started going downhill 07/08 and got worse since

Why do you think a new bike will require less maintenance?

If you buy brand new, I would expect more issues than a used bike.

Any modern sports bike (ie 600cc +, as you don't really get smaller ones) will be mostly down to rider skill for 0-60. In first gear they will be limited by the front wheel coming up / the rider getting a good launch.

As can be seen from the video with the Harley - if the rider doesn't have a clue, then you may get embarrassed.

Current 600RR is far too ugly for my tastes. For that reason along I'd go 636 if I wanted a 600.
