Got me new bike this morning (crm 250). Bastard died after a mile, got it going again, then it died again at the next junction. Motherfucker sucks ass. Kick start only, ok ok so yeah - not like there's any hard compression there - but even so, it's a bit tall and when the tosser won't catch it's a PITA.

So basically it took me three hours to get 20 miles. Twisted Evil

Wanker kept stalling on the overrun - especially when changing down into second / first. Was okay at going up the box, although low gears were fluffy as owt. But down shifting, ugh. No. DOES NOT LIKE.

Other bikers fucking suck. There were LOADS out today. Not one bastard stopped. And my karma's good. Very good, even. Since getting my license last June I've u-turned and gone bike to broken down bikes at least 5 times. Each time I offered help of phone, pillion to get the breakdownee back home, etc. etc. So I've got some in the bank. And what happens - twats just ride past me pushing it along the road.

Only ONE person stopped - and it was a fairly fit young woman in a focus who slowed down and asked me if I was okay. Didn't have me vial of chloroform and claw hammer so just smiled and said no it's okay, nearly home now but thanks you rule.

Anyway, passing a guy's place who knows his way round bikes and has stripped a carb of mine before, I saw he was in his yard and knocked on. We kicked it up and I told him the symptoms - after a little while he found there was a strange and very sticky residue weeping out of the airbox.

So eventually limped the bastard home, whipped the panel off and sure enough there's this weird sticky crap around the bottom of the big sponge air filter thing.

No this shouldn't be in the workshop section. I'm just relating the tail of the last few hours. Was tempted to ring the seller and berate his sorry ass but watcher gonna do. I paid me money and blah blah caveat fucking emptor izzit blud.

Bikers're scum. Fuck you bikers. Textile Tony, Wayne one-piece and Beryl on her Bonneville. Sod the lot of yers. Middle Finger Middle Finger

Biker's don't seem overly that bad round here. I've stopped and helped out fellow bikers and even car drivers. When I ashamedly went into the back of my dads bike, we pulled over and another biker who saw us pull over stopped and asked if we were all right. Don't think he saw the incident though.

I was also at the petrol station and there was some guy with a BSA. Having issues with it starting. So I offered him a hand although the best I could do was give him a spanner from my under seat tool kit to allow him to take it apart to sort it out as I know nothing about BSA's. But not one other person even stopped to ask if he was all right. Even he said he was expecting me just to fuck off and not help out.

Kinda agree with what my instructor says, I love bikes but not bikers. Of all the breakdowns/offs I've had not a single bike has ever stopped to offer any single bit of help.

Guess the L plates and the fact I'm not a gal with massive tits aids them in reasons not to stop.

I have stopped personally for other people though, normally to lend a land lifting their bike up/lending a spanner. An the other week it was duct tape and cable ties to a guy that had come off.

the sticky residue is just filter oil. nothing horrendous - previous owner may have been abit over zealous with the quantity though if its running out of the airbox.

Ok - thanks. That's both good to know, and bad. Good because I now understand what this strange substance actually is. But bad because it seems like it might not be the source of the bike's running problems - well actually that's more of a question than a statement. I get that it's possible to overdo the amount of this gunk and end up starving the bike of air, but I'm not sure that's what's happened.

I wanted to get the filter out - but I can't see how to do it. There's this clip thing that's keeping it in place but which I can only partially free up. Mad

Top Tip.

Don't push your bike, pull it. Get a bit of rope and tie it to the back of the bike then round your waist so it's the correct length to be pulling it along while holding the bars.

It's WAY eaiser. Just be aware that you need to use the front brake to stop (both you and the bike).

Also, not so relevant in this case, but if you run out of fuel, it's often easier to take the tank off and walk there and back than to push the entire bike to a filling station. Reasonable chance of someone giving you a lift too.

Chester Chronicle reports.

Quote:
Gangs of highway robbers are targeting vulnerable women on isolated country lanes and demanding handfuls of cash.

Over the past ten days more than ten terrified women have been conned and robbed after they stopped to help motorists who claimed they were injured or stranded.

Nothing worse than pushing a bike, with all your gear on, in the sun!

Had to do it once with a KTM that the battery died on, like fuck was I kicking it, wasn't having it. Managed to push it a mile and a half before getting a garage to jump start it for me and blipped it another mile round the corner to a dealer for a new battery.

Also just bumping the ZX10R outside my house when the battery was almost dead... fucking hell, hard slog that.

I was late getting to work one morning last week, ran out of petrol in the car park on arrival (tank set to reserve) so had to push the ZZR round to the petrol station, about 1/4 a mile

New-ish pads so brakes rub a little, took 40 mins to push it round, fill it and ride it back.

Yeah - absolutely. Luckily I don't actually have any gear as such. Well apart from a jacket, but I was just in me cardie with it being sunny. Oh and lid of course. I'm not very atgatt to be honest. I just envisaged this being a simple go-pick-the-bike-up kind of job so didn't bother with the bits of clobber I've got.

crm doesn't have a battery so at least that makes for less to push. ; - )

Yeah don't envy you that job at all.

If there's one on their own I will stop and help. If they have company and all looks ok I won't. I'm a commuter so if I'm on the way to work I won't stay long as it would impact on my job. I would however give a lift to a petrol station if that helped.

As for sunny day, non helpful bikers, these are the fuckers that ride twice a year in the sunshine and only if everything is spotlessly clean. They ain't gonna spoil their day helping out someone else.

I can however recommend the policy from rac that covers the individual. It will get you home within 50 miles.

Granted, I did have a sniff at a KLR250 before I came to my senses and got the Enfield.

With that amount of oil in the filter it might be running rich? Squeeze the residue out. Sounds simple enough... Check plugs, give the carbs a thorough clean, the usual stuff.

However did you not test ride it? If I bought a bike and it died after a mile I'd turn straight back around to the seller. Fuck the other 19 miles.

I've been there, since then I always carry extra cash. Thumbs Up

It wasn't that bad, I mean once I was riding like all day long in my gear, on a MZ150, so around 40mph, avg. It was like 35°C+ on the direct sun and my mate needed me to push him a bit, so he could start his cbr with crappy battery. He stopped in place where there were no hills at all, just flat land. So, I'm running around with my gear and lid on, sweating down into my boots, the bike wouldn't start, so I did like 5 sprints pushing his bike in the direct sun. Then I though, I'd get some cold air while on the MZ, well, 40mph is not enough even when you unbutton the jacket and keep the visor up. Thumbs Down

He got a fresh battery this year, so I think I won't be trying to get a heart attack this time. Laughing

I did test ride it - last week. But only went round the block a few times. Seemed okay. Didn't behave like yesterday.

The owner is just this really old guy who's a bit pants. I just thought fuck it, it's my own stupid fault. Took it on the chin, chalk it up to experience, all that shit. I am starting to regret not going back and telling him the fucking thing won't fucking well run but fuck it.

Irony is, out of five bikes I've bought, this is the only one that's gone shitty but which I've also test ridden.

Yeah got aa cover as part of carol gash multi bike. Thing is, you break down - you call them. They say 2 hours (bank holiday, remember?), so you wait 15 minutes. Then the bike decides to play ball. So you think do I wait or do I go for it. Total no brainer if you ask me. You go for it.

Except that fifteen minutes later you're back to square one. So you ring up and say my location's changed. I'm on the grimston bar roundabout now.

Then the circle repeats itself. And repeats itself again. Then again. And again. Until you finally get home and cancel the call out.

Yeah - exactly. It was relatively well behaved. I think it's because the road wasn't long enough to get into top, then change down through the box like you do once you're properly under way. Basically, the symptoms weren't apparent or else weren't there. What I need to do is phone the seller and ask him what if anything he changed between the time I took it out for a test ride and yesterday. But now I'm at me mum and dad's bloody miles away and can't find the PO's #. Confused

Yorkhill chaaaridy ride tomorrow, it's probably a bit warm for tweed so I might go with a nice linen jacket over a weskit.
