Cheers Chris, I have seen so many threads about this on loads of forums, but as I don't watch TV I haven't really seen any of the stuff about it.

Cheers

anyone else notice how the bike rider was a good few inches from knee down on all the bends. the program is catering for a car driving audience so of course it won, in reality, the gap would probly be about 1-2 secs, not 4.

put it up against a 750 tho.....
or even a litre bike!!!

my 2p's worth!!

As I mentioned in another thread; the bike tyres were probably cold. That is a major failing of bikes in such situations whilch clarkson is obviously happy to capitalise on.

now theres an interesting point I distinctly remember when I was posting some topics about getting your knee down several replies were along the lines of " getting your knee down will not make you faster" " people only do it to show off " " you will go faster if you hold your knee in and lean over more " Exclamation

The rider was holding his knee out however if I remember correctly, it's just he wasn't leant over enough to get it down.

Note my comment about the cold tyres... either he couldn't push it because of that or his was a slow rider.

I know my 'warm up' laps are usually a lot more than 4seconds longer than my faster laps; but then I'm trying to push it on the warm up laps.

That would be me*, while I'm not very skilled in the grand scheme of things, I can ride a bike to a moderately acceptable standard.

*I think, though I doubt I made comments about the showing off, as I do think it's a useful method for riding amd improving your riding.

The point was... hanging off will allow you to go faster, getting your knee down won't.
Getting your knee down will give you more confidence to go faster, but won't change anything speedwise.

It's just an extra 'sense', rather than

I would say fast group at track days is a bit better than moderately acceptable! Laughing

Riding with some properly fast people on occasion has shown me that I have a long, long way to go yet Smile, even in the BMCRC rookie 600s I expect to be pretty much at the back.

(Frankie Chili only passed me on the straight though Razz Razz.)

Should have t-boned him at the next corner...!

Apparently he gets a bit pissed off when knocked off/forced into a mistake (thinking back to his battle with Foggy, where he ended up in the gravel on the last lap).

no G you didn't say anything about showing off by getting your knee down but others have is it a matter that they secretly want to get their knee down too? but just pretend that they don't want to? cmon people it's time to ask for help, we're here for you Laughing REACH OUT and touch someone .....or that tarmac! Wink but on a serious note the main thing I learnt by getting my knee down is that the amount of steering response gained by hanging off a bit is enormous it is so much more stable and the feedback is fantastic OH and it's bloody great fun! Very Happy

I haven't got my knee down yet but hanging off is just so much more fun and allows me to corner faster/more stable than usual which is a bonus, I just haven't found anywhere good to plant it down this winter, badly surfaced roads with crap all over them Mad
