Anyone got tips on the best method of removing cigarette smell from a leather jacket? I've just bought one second hand and as a no longer smoker, to me, it reeks.

One method I've read about is to remove the armour and chuck it in the drier on the lowest heat setting with 3 tennis balls and 6 drier sheets. I'm loath to do this though in case it messes up the jacket.

Any garment from a smokers house reeks. Including the smoker. It's one of the two major reasons I quit 2 year ago. The other being the government taking the piss outa me with the price.

We bought a nearly new settee from a smoker friend( she passed away and daughter was packing house up) it's leather and we have had it 6 months and there's still a whiff now and then!

The only thing I can think of is some leather cleaner. Try the supermarket or a horse saddlery/tack shop

Smokers are vile!

Bought a cheap one piece, stunk of smoke. Hung in garden shed to air, even a year later still stinks too much to wear.

Hang it outside for a few days. The smell will never go completely though.

Clean the leather with a proper leather cleaner and leather feed, the lining can be cleaned with a car valet spray then hang it in the sun to dry.

You will never get rid of the smell. I'm an ex-smoker too and the smell just repulses me now, so I would stick it on Ebay and get another from a smoke-free home.

Alcohol wipe down. This cleans any crud off the surface and dries out the leather.
Leather feed.
Hang outside in the wind until you can tolerate it. Think weeks.

Really though, I'd punt it on. I've passed on several Gumtree bargains after asking "Is you a smoker bruv?" Puke

A weak dilution of white wine vinegar and water in a hand spray. Douse the outside leather and wipe away immediately with kitchen roll. Turn inside out and douse the linings, hang outside preferably in sunshine till dry.

You may need to repeat this but it should work. And no, you won't smell of vinegar afterwards....

Get it dry cleaned? Surely that'd kill most of the smell.

Nikwax leather cleaner on the outside, bottle of febreeze on the inside. Load the innards of the jacket up with tumble dryer sheets (bounce or whatever), when you wear it you warm up and the fragrance kicks in overpowering any of the old smokey smell.

This

Or, cover in cow shit, forget about fag smell.

I did what's in the quote and it worked for me. It didn't go completely until I started wearing it on the bike though. Ride it like you stole it for a week and leave the smell behind you!

That'a a lot of cow shit!

Lots of good suggestions above, but if after all these you can still smell the smoke then it might be easier to just start smoking yourself...given time you'll be unable to smell almost anything
