had the divvy over a year and got bored so replaced it with this.
Old 1988 gsx600f same engine the bandit has in it.
paid pennys for it and all it needs Is a little tlc.
need to adjust rear suspension as its set up for a child of less than 1 stone and I bottomed it out and overhaul the carbs as its running shit at 6k.
aswell as a little touching up where it has a few scratches.
and possibly repaint swingarm

That's fine, but he clearly hasn't taken that approach either. That GSX is a banger. It's battered and rusted, and neither is it a desirable model. It was hideous to start with and time hasn't been kind. I don't understand why anyone would waste their time on something that's well past it in every sense, no matter how cheap it is.
| Quote: | In the world of 10year old bikes, the one that's best looked after and maintained will be the best rider, irrespective of model. |
10 years isn't very old for a bike at all. Many bikes are toys and get so little use and if you're patient and you're prepared to pay a fair price, you can invariably find an excellent example of any mainstream bike made in the last ~15 years. So, it's simply not a case of condition or model, you can get both. Granted, at 20+ years, condition becomes much more of a factor in choice of bike as there are fewer tidy examples remaining.
Even so, condition would never be the only factor. I'd pick a tired Fireblade over a mint GSX or RF any day. So long as the engine and chassis is good, it's easy enough to refresh bearings/suspension/brake systems/carbs/consumables if necessary.

If the price was right I'd have it, got plenty of experience and spares with them engines, would make a ok hack I think (cheap and undesirable are plus points in a bike for me) . ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 & 51 Moto Guzzi California Some Bike Pics...

the swingarm isn't mint but it isn't fucked, its only where the paint has peeled off in places and rusted over, got a majority of it off. exhaust has a spot of rust that's gone.
but I have full service history back to 1996, 6 months tax + mot, insurance cost me £70 a year and itll do 55mpg.
pads, c+s less than 200 miles on them, all the major work has been done previously.
it may be old and tatty but I insured it today and rode It around with no major problems except carb needed a clean which is done.
it has a rack which suited my topbox which is more win!
its a bit quicker than the divvy but who needs mass speed.
the x11 was mainly to sell on for profit which I did, bought £500 sold £1100.
I bought it for less than the divvy went for and the bloke delivered it.
I guarantee after a few Halfords spray cans and some polish I can sell this for atleast £250 profit after using it until I find a better bike.
say no more. ____________________ GOOD GAME BODYGUARD: https://i.imgur.com/8WePGgf.jpg

Either way, its got trouble written all over it & I'd put money on the reason it bottoms out being because the 26 year old rear shock is mullered. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

If it gets him around and doesn't cause much trouble, then I don't see the issue with that bike. Looks a bit rusty, but mechanically may be fine.
That being said, the FZR600r I purchased over a year ago had issues I didn't see at the time of buying. Clutch issues, along with a few other niggly problems. Sorted those out on the cheap, and a year on it's still my daily ride (and fun, too). It's slow compared to anything made in the last 10 years, but I accept it for what it is. I can still run rings around swinging big dicks on sr1000rr-s in the bends (yes, it happened ).
I would really like an sr1000rr, though. Don't get me wrong. I'm looking at getting another 1000cc. Been looking at the Aprilia Mille. Gimme.. |

Yeah it is, I've messaged the guy, I really regretted selling it to divvy once I stopped being high on prescription opiates. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

Hey stop slagging off the teapot! If you've not got a lot of cash to spend they are not a bad bike for the money, and notoriously relaible. If your engine does die it's not hard to find a new one that fits, off all manner of Suzukis from about a 15 year period.
If the rear shock does turn out to be knackered there are also a lot of shocks off recent bikes that fit with minimal fuss and a massive handling improvement.
I so nearly ebay sniped one of these a few months ago, tell me it isn't cool!

I have a mate with an oil cooled bandit 650 with a gsxr shock and it isn't a slow or ill handling machine. Yes it's not a sports bike, but it's also much more comfortable and cheaper to run! ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed
