Being old enough to remember the days of 250 learner bikes, then definiteley a 250 sports bike.

Give us another 250 stroker with a wild powerband!

The technology is out there to build a 250 4 banger that would sit nicely between the 125 screamers anf the 600 s/sports. And if it keeps insurance premiums down then they would have a winner Thumbs Up Mr. Green

There were rumours in MCN a couple of weeks back that Honda are thinking of making a 4 stroke Honda CBR250R, apparantly this is to encourage young riders to learn in stepping stones before moving from a 125 to a 600cc. Smile

I find the 500s do that just fine in that they are two stepping stones, 33BHP then 50~something BHP, two power increases between 125 and 600, better than just one in my opinion, and don't forget the 400s and "non sport" 600 likes SS is going to get, all varied power outputs to provide nice enough stepping stones for different competency levels and so on.

The NSR is a lovely bike i really dont know why they stopped making it. I love mine to bits!!!!

As for the CBR 125 they should deffinantly not made it especially to replace the NSR I had a ride on one and what a pile of crap! They are uncomfortable as hell the saet is like sitting on a super moto, the bike is far too skinny and small it feels like you have no road presense what so ever! and talk about slow you go to give and a handfull and expect at least something and it gives you absoloutly nothing!!!! Crap bike!

As for a 250 i think it would be nice to have something that will reach 33BHP easily as 125's with around 33BHP you have to keep at around 7500 RPM to feel like you are actually going anywhere!

And if you restrict a bigger bike to 33BHP you often end up with terrible flat spots! At the moment 33BHP always seems to be a comprimise i would like something that just fitted the bill nicely!

They stopped production because of the cost involved to keep the bike down to the new EU emission levels. Smile

Ickle hondas are bulletproof... end of. In answer to the question

NO- the NSR should not have been deleted
NO- CBR's cannot hold a candle to the CBR name
YES - 250's will have plenty of torque when compared to a derestricted 125, and should be very punchy. Just make sure they don't base the styling on the current CBR125.

Oh, i was at rex judd's this afternoon and they had an NSR 125, CBR125 and Yam TZR50 side by side, i was quite amazed at how small the CBR actually was. The tank was a laugh and even the TZR looked towering over the CBR! Neutral

The cbr125 is CRAP..... i went to look at one when i was shopping around for ma bike and guess wot i ended up getting a NSR125 which looks better is faster and drives a hole lot better but the one thing the cbr does beat the nsr at is the sound when u derestrict them very nice indeed!

And as far as 250 go get a suki rgv the one with the same engine as the rs250 and the twin exhaust one another above each other, well fast as its a 2 stroke its light and its got a hell load of power behind it to Very Happy

Where'd you get that from, most 2 strokes are unreliable unless you look after them properly, I abused my Katana R when I had it and did about £400 worth of damage to the engine, since I've had my RS50 I've looked after it warmed it up used fully synthetic oil and not let the temperature go past halfway, the only problems I've had was an exhaust mount split and I seem to get through brake pads quickly, the rs 125 is suppose to have a couple more issues, but there not as bad as a lot of people make out.

You missed out the CG! Its the perfect leaner bike! Ok so its not a great looking bike, but its all you need for a leaner bike; very cheap, very reliable, bullet proof, can get used and abused and it doesn't care.

I reackon a 250 to the 33bhp would be a good idea tho. As long as it was as nice as the NSR and as cheap as the CG!

NSR125 had to be stopped due to emission laws. Otherwise Honda would still be making it, it was a moneymaker.

CBR125 looks arse, but its probably quite cheap to run, its quite cheap new, the kids like them. A good learnerbike.

It would be nice to see the manufacturers making some 33bhp bikes, couldn't be a 2 stroke because of the emissions laws, but if one of the manufactures came up with a decent tough 250-350cc twin that could be slotted into a naked musclebike or a faired sportsbike, they could sell a few. Would be nice to see it with a brand new designed-for-task engine though, not a sleeved down 400 or 650.

I think the CBR125 was something like the 4th most sold bike last year, behind the R1, the CBR600RR and some crappy scooter that I hadn't hear of.

Honda really did stike gold with that one, the general concensus on here is that it's slow and ugly, the sales figures don't reflect our opinions sadly!

The NSR should still be in production.

The CBR is very popular so people must want it!

A nice 2t 250 33bhp would be nice, but then you wouldn't really be able to derestrict it afte rthe 2 years, so it'd have a short lifespan really, sold on every 2 years, losing a lot of value, they end up cheap, ragged, not worthwhile from a business point of view I rekon.

Why would you need to derestrict it????
Surely the only reason you ride at 33BHP is because you have to personally i would just be looking to move up to a bigger more powerfull bike after the 2years restricted! and i think most people would do the same!

Maybe I don't have the majorities opinion with me here...

But I'd prefer to have a restricted bike and then de-restrict it after that..

Otherwise you've got a 125, pass your test, then you've got a Bros 400 or goose or something like that, then something even bigger.

I'd prefer to have a 125, then an XJ600 restricted Evil or Very Mad then after 2 years keep with the same bike and just knock the restrictors out..

As a PROUD owner of a cbr 125 It suited me perfectly (obviosly it doesn't suit everyone, but what bike does?) It maybe slower than the 2 strokes but I personally prefer it's sound, fuel efficiency and looks. As a learner bike it doesn't need speed it goes fast enough for any learner, it's light enough for us girls and it handles and corners beautifuly. I have just bought a zx6 but i'll be keeping my cbr for short runs.

My idea being that with modern technology a 4 stroke 33bhp bike could have a nice broad spread of power, the chassis could be designed to feel exciting with 33bhp, basically so the whole bike was a nice 33bhp ride.

Then at the end of your restriction, sell it and move up to a bigger bike. Restricted bikes feel just that, restricted.

Hi

Trouble is that the nearest 250 4 strokes to 33hp were the GPX250 and ZZR250, which had engines you needed to rev the nuts off to get them to move. Certainly no low down power.

All the best

Keith
