Hello

Been watching this forum for a while and am just getting ready for my first bike tour.

I ride a 125 duke and will be travelling from Chelmsford to Derby, night in derby, then derby to lake district. Taking all the best roads on the way, avoiding fast A roads, and just generally taking a scenic route. Then spending 5 days in Cumbria, touring and hiking. then for the 2 days home i'll stopping off at Telford for a night, then on the final day go along to Brighton, again the best roads along the way. Finally back up to chelmsford that afternoon/early evening, assuming all goes to plan....

Anyway sorry for the essay and any advice is appreciated Smile

Thanks

I wouldn't classify it as a tour of England...but a little adventure out and about. Still its your adventure, so go and enjoy. No tips other than roads in Sussex are still badly damaged by pot holes, so be careful while you're gawping at the views... Laughing

I'd skip the Brighton bit and from Telford go into Wales.

A5 round Shrewsbury, A458 To Welshpool, A483 to Newtown, then the A489 and 470 through Llanidloes.

Follow A44 west along the river Wye valley then cut the corner using the A4120 past Devils Bridge Falls.
At Aberystwyth head south along the A487 and stay anywhere in the Cardigan Bay area. B&B and a nice dinner/couple of pints and see if you can spot any dolphins.

Next day ride home over the Brecons. Follow the A40 on a map and you'll see you can get all the way back to the M25 on it (coming on and off for detours if your not all biked out)

Much better than a boring ride to Brighton!

I may try and do that, I only thought of Brighton as I'm at uni there in september. Wales will probably have be much nicer Smile hopefully I'll have time to get a lot done. Can't use the m25 though as I'm on L plates!

Well if you are coming to Brighton area, leave these roads till then. Go explore places you've never been.

If we ever met I could show you my map of exploration around the UK since I've been on the road. I highlight the areas I've been in orange highlighter...I've been a LOT of places. Mr. Green

For me exploring and adventure is what I earn money for. Thumbs Up

A40 to Oxford. A34 to Bicester. A41 to Hemel Hempstead via On Yer Bike near Waddesdon (good coffee stop). A414 across Hertfordshire into Essex. Simples.

Ive done a similar trip on a 125 and I'd agree with others on skipping Brighton. It's a hell of a leg when you cant go on the motorways!
