I ask as I'm thinking of getting a blutooth set in my helmet and some allow for an aux connection for an MP3 player or have radio as well. I would sort of like to listen to the radio but not sure if its a dangerous distraction or not. As for the phone I miss a lot of calls while on the bike so I want the bluetooth kit so I can pick up the call but then pull over to talk.

Depending on the journey time I normally listen to music, helps pass the time, only one earplug though. Regarding distraction everything is a distraction and we all have to make choices it's up to you to way them options like you already know.

Will say I've worn earplugs from work (apparently go up to 140db) now they are horrible to ride with as I prefer to hear the engine and you can hardly hear it with the earplugs in.

Every day.

Just make sure the volume isn't too loud so you can hear sirens and stuff. I know some people don't like it. You won't know until you try.

I listen to music most of the time while riding. I use a Bluetooth headset (Sena SHM10), kept at a reasonable volume so that I can still hear traffic/sirens. I turn it up when riding on the motorway, where wind noise cuts out anything else anyway. Most of the setups have speakers in the helmet, rather than earphones, so it's not a lot different than listening to music in the car.

I've tried it with earphones connected straight to an iPhone in my pocket and I don't like it. You are much more cut off from the sounds around you and it's harder to switch off or change the volume. On the Sena, there's a simple glove-friendly controller, so you can quickly change the volume or shut it off. The (more popular) Scala one is similar.

My Scala Rider wasn't really up to music to be honest.

I use headphones for radio most days at the moment but I go through phases of not. I tend to ride a bit calmer with radio on.

Every time I get on it I put on some music! Loud enough to hear over the wind noise, but not so loud I can't hear horns or sirens Thumbs Up

Used to but sure reason why hearing seems pants. Full blast music and wind noise never a good combo.

Tedious motorways only.

Cheap in-ear plugs + ~£4 of silicone putty from eBay = custom moulded plugs that shut out wind noise as well as keeping the bangin choons in.

I normally do - I've put a Starcom1 onto the bike, so my helmet is all wired up and the phone on my handlebars bluetoothed into the system so I can hear satnav instructions, listen to music and potentially take phone calls - though I've only done that a couple of times and the phone auto-answers.

I don't have the music on too loud (can still hear the bike and noises around me), and I've used phones/two way radios in cars for over 30 years so am used to either telling people to go away if the conversation is too heavy, or going quiet and mentally blocking out the call if something on the road needs my attention more.

I wear earplugs. I think that actually helps, by cutting out the wind noise. Also, you have to make sure the ear speakers that fit into your helmet are pointing right at your ears. If they are off even a little bit, the volume is much lower.

On the Trophy cause it has a stereo Cool

I never wear earphones except for the bluetooth ones in my helmet for the satnav though, I find losing the roads sounds makes me less aware of what is going on around me.

I don't often listen to music when riding but sometimes I feel like it if I just fancy a chill ride, say midnight on a nice night, just put some tunes on and go and explore the country, some of my best memories like that! Sounds weird but it is great fun. Thumbs Up

I commute everyday without music so music is a bit of a novelty for me whilst riding.

I still love exhaust noise Smile.

If I had to take a long motorway journey I may stick them in but I like to use earbuds to play it safe.

Never.

I've always found all aspects of riding something that I like to be fully immersed in and totally focused on. Resulting in me concentrating all my senses and conscious power on. Rarely wear earplugs, even with my MX lid.

I think its the immediate venerability that fuels this in me. Because its a totally different story in what feels like a safe, quiet, comfy cage, with shields all round and airbags that shoot up your arse. And so i'll happily eat/drink/rave/chat, even when i'm pinning it Razz.

Not even considered it as earplugs alone made me feel unaware. Maybe when I get more comfortable but I doubt it.
I won't even wear earphones in public as I dislike the attenuation of an important sense.
