Ok, so im not trying to cause any flare ups of 'my bikes better than yours', but at the moment im strugling to see why for General use/fun days 125s seem to have this 'baby bike' image about them.

I have my full license and the biggest bike i have owned is an r6, currently riding a cbf 125 and lookin to change to a vareadeo if finance comes through. At the moment my bike is paid for outright, it cost me about 40 quid a month for petrol and insurance to get to work and wherever else i may need to go. Its a 125 so light and agile and you can wind the throttle back without worrying about flying into the car infront. It over takes most traffic, on a flat i can break the highest national speed limit and yet its completly awsome at 10mph going throuh the city.

I feel there is somehwat of a stigma about 125's , like your not a proper biker till your over a 125......why?

- They can do 70mph which is enouh to have some fun, scare yourself and overtake traffic etc etc.

- They average about 120mpg

- insurance is dirt cheap

- Litterally costs cheaper than walking to get to work ( well for me because i would stop of for a sarnie and a drink every morning Wink )

But the bigger bikers seem to look down on them....600cc vs 125 cc.....they both will spend the majority of there time between 30-70mph but the 600cc will do it burning more fuel.

Any thoughts, dont want to sound like a cock, just i love bikes and people look at me on a 125 and i feel embarrased and yet i have no idea why!

I do not agree good sir!

Its like (and im not aying anyone on here would have the attitude) i have heard so many times, 'why do you wear trouser protection' and a jacket with back protection'............because......if i fall off a 125cc at 60mph it doesnt hurt any less than falling off an r1 at 60mph ya prick!

haha sorry, i just see so many 125 riders out there without gear, probably mainly for the fact they think they shouldnt be wearing gear on a 125 that still does 70!

I love my Gs 125 so much so I still have it nearly 10 years on but I could not live with it for the rest of my life as my main bike.

It's good low speed fun that will get to Scotland on a spits worth of petrol but economy and casual cruising is not what biking is all about.

Hopeless if you ever intended on taking a pillion too.

It just won't give you the same buzz a bigger bike will.

A 125 you will use 100% of it's power a lot meaning you have nothing left to 'get out of trouble'. They don't have the same road presence as a larger bike. Often they are budget bikes and not as well made as a bigger bike.

Depending on the milage you do would depend how important MPG is in reality if you do 100 miles per month and you get 50mpg it costs say £12 on a 125 this may be £6 not really worth getting too wound up about.

If you are happy on a 125 then good for you, in a city I get it is a good way to bomb around. But personally would rather have something bigger and powerful.

Knacker i do understand what your saying about the buzz and i aree with you.

What i cant agree with is bier bikers thinking people who ride 125's are like children in the bike world. Its silly. there should be a mutural respect if you enjoy biking for whatever bike you ride. some 125s now claim to do 84mph standard (yzfr r125, i have owned one and got to 80 on the clock). oing 80 on a flat with just your whole body away from the ground is still something not to be grumbled at.

Also i would just like to add, that i really do believe a cbt should be more than 5 hours in a playground and then a easy ride on the road. In all honesty your making 17 year olds do a half a day course then oing to let them loose on 70-80mph machines.

An R6 can do two and a half times that speed for you to fall off. The 125 can't.

If you really still find it 'fun' to ride, fair play to you.

While I like lower power bikes, not to the point that you can be full throttle everywhere, including midcorner and still be waiting for the needle(s) to slowly climb.

2 stroke 125s are a bit more 'fun' as you do need to make a little use of them and you're talking power to hit 100mph or so; so acceleration that will have the chance of pulling the skin of a custard.

it sure can......but 90% of the time on the r6 was used below 70mph and hey ho, i looked cool in leathers and needed them......on my 125 cruising around at same speed, i just need a coat and a helmet apparently. :/

Because you had an R6 and have likely been talking to people who probably think that all there is to biking is getting kwik-thrills, and dressing up like magazine pin-ups, and having big numbers to brag about to other people dressed up like magazine pin-ups, while comparing anodised bling from china, touching rubber creepily, comparing chicken-strips, and discussing 'natural inhibitors' before riding the five miles home again to turn themselves back into Mondeo man for work the following morning.

There is more to biking, as you have discovered, and there are people who aren't so derogatory towards tiddlers, and who do appreciate them... and there are quite a number of us on here....

Don't worry... you are NOT ALONE... you are not odd, strange or a bit mental... Sanity is merely a measure of ones own personal madness in comparison to that of society in general... by which measure, given that 95% of the population think that we must be mad just to ride a motorbike... means this is a mere idiosyncrasy, a slight and endearing eccentricity... and if other bikers feel the need to have at least an extra 600cc between their thighs for some reason... then that's theirs... let them get on with it.

Stop tarring "bikers" with the same brush. Most of us have never looked down on anyone who rides a 125, or anything for that matter. If you got butthurt because of an experience you had whilst riding your 125, I feel for you, genuinely.

It sounds like your having a pop at anyone who rides anything above a 125, to be honest.

70-80mph is terribly fast for 17 year olds?

I suspect your perception of speed may be akin to mine, albeit minus 100 miles per hour.

And so I can quite see why you'd want to stick to a smaller bike and not need to get out of first gear on the R6 most of the time! Wink

naaa man i love bigger bikes, i love going to shows and walking round meeting people and lookin at there bikes. And i dont mean to tarr you all with the same brush, truly i dont. Litterally I feel like that giner spotty kid who no-one wants to talk to when i go to a biker cafe because i ride a cbf. Even my friends try and et me back on a bigger bike.....but for the love of god all the reason would be is to hit 70mph faster. haha Smile

I think ultimately it is because 125s are associated with learners and this puts them in the noob and inexperienced bracket.

I personally couldn't care what people ride, be it because their licence dictates the engine/bhp or it is their personal choice to ride a 125.
The only time it can irritate me is if we go on a group rideout and a 125 (or two) turn up.

We end up waiting so much for the 125s but generally I couldn't give a damn what people ride.

Believe it or not I get a bit of grief if I turn up on a rideout on my tzr250 as it is an old, small capacity bike Rolling Eyes , never seem to be left behind though Laughing

could the 125s not have there own rideouts or they all stick together and meet at your destiantion? i agree that would be annoying if your all wanting a bit of speed.

Id be haoppy enough plodding along with the rest of the 125s at 60-70 mph......may over take you while your all fillin up Wink haha

I used to ride a 125 every single day to work down the motorway.

It was shit there, a bigger bike is needed.

I used to go on ride outs with my 125, sometimes I caused all the other bikes to wait up, a bigger bike was needed.

If I was doing it PURELY for economy, I'd probably buy a 250 and not rag the tits off it, I doubt I'd buy an overpriced learners vehicle again.

Also, taking over if we were filling up, lets say the petrol station is 20 miles away, I'd likely be there in 15 minutes... you'll be cruising in about 20 minutes, I'd have filled up, gone for a piss, put gloves back on and fapped to the sound of my bike before you'd caught up Laughing

Craftmanship and the size of them. Also love the sound.

Unfortunatly my only 2 dislikes with 125s are They always seem abit cheaper made than 'biger bikes' and god knows why but they make them look tiddly in 90% of cases. Not enough options for tall riders and road presence.

I think you need about 20 to 25hp in a bike to cruise at 70 without screwing the tits off a bike, accelerate comfortably up a hill, and not be a liability on motorways.

For 20hp, you need about 200cc.

A 200cc bike will probably be cheaper to run, cheaper to buy and cheaper to insure

Your 11.3bhp bike can certainly show that on the speedo.

Compared to an R6, yes. Not to a 500.

I might have another one day, they're fine, unless you feel the need to make something of it.

Ah; a tart!

I like bikes for the riding, don't really care about the aesthetics (much).
