PostPosted: 02:38 - 29 Apr 2014    Post subject: Stoppies - inverted fork vs regular fork Reply with quote

The title says it all really. One of the reasons why i've chosen Aprilia RS 125 over the older R6 model is that it has inverted fork and as i'm planing to practice stoppies with it, i think it's more suitable?

But let me know your opinion pros. Are inverted forks better for stoppies? Why?

Thanks.

I can't see why there would be much difference... USDs are primarily to reduce unsprung weight aren't they? By having the smaller/lighter fork inners at the bottom improves steering handling and response.

Happy to be enlightened by someone who knows more

They are slightly more likely to break at the point where the stanchion meets the upper part due to the stress point when doing stoppies, but other than that it should make no difference.

You chose an RS125 over an R6 because of the upside down forks? Seriously?

No.

The fork with better quality suspension is better for stoppies.

That's the R6.

The way up you put it makes no particularly useful difference, apart from showing off to other 17 year olds, I'm afraid.

R6 also also nice brakes, though it's heavier. I'd go for the R6, still.

You want an enduro or supermoto. I would not want a few hundred pounds worth of plastics breaking.

I warn you though... it goes wrong, fast. Embarassed

Yes, USD forks was one of the reasons why i'm going with RS 125 Embarassed but i realize, regular R6 forks are still tronger... i realize that the bike is a lot more suited for stunt riding.

I am not 17 year old btw, i'm almost 28 and i'm not getting a bike because of showing off to someone.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm afraid i have to consider my choice - R6 vs RS 125 again... just when i found a perfect RS 125 for the price!

Maybe not, but afraid your posting rather resembles the typical 17 year old Smile.

If you're choosing a bike for stunting, go and do some research.

A B1H I believe is a good choice.

I'd also be worried about your general lack of experience from the questions you ask.
And that being the case, the RS125 might be the better choice, as you're less likely to get yourself into trouble.
(Especially if we're talking the new 4 stroke - aka a faired CG125 Razz .)

Unless its brand new and bee stripped and rebuilt prior to you buying, it is definitely not a perfect RS125.

If you want a bike for trolling around on, just get a nice 300 EXC. You'll have the same speeds as the RS125 easy. You'll wheelie for eternity, stoppies are easy if you don't go over the front... Laughing Laughing

I'm not sure if its just me or not. But I'm almost 40, been riding on and off since I was 17 and I have never had any interest in doing stoppies or even wheelies.

If not for showing off, like you say, why would you want to put that much stress on your front suspension? Also running the risk of overcooking it and dropping it? It makes no sense.

Riding fun, skill development, sporty seating position, practicing wheelies, stoppies, etc, also exploring gravel roads. (Showing off not included).

I'm guessing he's bought into the idea that being able to stunt your bike somehow demonstrates complete and total mastery over the machine. For some, linear motion and lean angle are not enough, you must be able to go up, down and around too Laughing Laughing Laughing

I don't do them to impress, I do them because its another thing you can learn, gives you chance to control the bike more.

Skill is keeping the bike fully in control on the road. That's 2 wheels on the ground to the rest of us.
Sporty seating position?
If you want to practice then find somewhere safe do so... Off the roads.
Although how you equate these to skill is a strange one... Given these are stunting skills (that's showing off) you seen to miss the point of riding.

Would love to see you do a stoppie on a gravel road..... Going to end in tears Laughing

How is your balance on 1 wheel? Are you not skilled enough to do something like that?

I'm going to assume you ride for pleasure, many ride to have fun to you know...

Skill is not crashing whilst doing stuff bikes are capable of.

I would normally practice stoppies and wheelies in a parking lot. Gravel road therefore offers low speed drifting skill development on RS 125. On R6 drifting can be done in a parking lot as well.

Riding skills can be developed not only while keeping two wheels on the road. Doing other things with bike except than "normally" riding it, contributes to skill development a lot more. Of course, if you truly want to develop normal bike control skills, go on the track but i am not planing to go on the track this season.

This can't be real. I'm calling troll/ballshit.

An R6 and RS 125 aren't even comparable in any way, and aren't built to be competition for one another. Why not look for other 125s if that's what you want, why even consider an R6?

Have you ridden a bike before?

They are comparable in a way that both are designed for track use primarily, both have sporty seating position (if we are talking 2006+ year R6). Competition? Don't recall mentioning it anywhere. 125s? More precisely please.
