This is for a Varadero XL125V.

Pillion peg hanger broken in crash. Coming up to MOT so needs repair.
Can anyone see if/how this can be done?
The broken off metal bit is missing in action. I understand local breaker can provide replacement peg.

Replacement hanger is apparently available but expensive (well outside budget of getting this through MOT). Cheaper than Honda original though Rolling Eyes

...or, lateral thinking, is there any way to fix Varadero seat so it doesn't have pillion carrying ability and therefore doesn't need pillion pegs for MOT?

Open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up

--- now sorted Thumbs Up - see my post below with picture of new peg.

If you're not too concerned about aesthetics, you could lop-off what's left of the peg holder-on-er, drill the hanger and attach one of these.

Take both hangers off then make a cardboard racing hump and secure it on with tape bike now a single seat

Can't you get an affordable used hanger?

There is a budget issue.
Problem is he does not keep up with maintenance bit by bit so need to do it all at once so bigger bills.
Chain and sprockets nearly £70.
Lever, flasher relay, brake pads, headlight bulb, side bulbs around £40+.

He will also need front peg and the rear pillion peg. Breaker price is £25 ballpark.

I am trying to get cheap bits but it is a balance between cost and quality/reliability.

Breaker quoted hanger for £85. Not sure if that ex VAT. So rather not have to wave goodbye to nigh on £100.

Unless you know of a hanger going cheaper?

Take the hangers off and find some plastic to put over the rear seat. Job done.

I think we have a winner Thumbs Up
Thanks for the advice, I obviously had a blindspot in sorting this.

What's not to like. Cheap and cheerful and my lad gets to play with an angle grinder. That must be his second favourite tool in the box behind a hammer Wink Rolling Eyes

I'll need to remind him it's probably best to drill a smaller pilot hole first rather than going for the full 10mm straight off the bat. However, please correct me if that's the wrong approach for this alloy.

I wouldn't want to pay more than £20 just for the hanger.......but I don't know how available they are for this bike.

These hangers are quite big pieces of metal, covering the swingarm bolt and including both sets of pegs, rider and pillion. As in...

I checked and there was a left hand set on ebay sold last year for around £50. So with a breaker markup and another year on, plus seem hard to get hold of, I'm not too surprised at price I was quoted (I think it's still high though!).

Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the advice above.
Issue now sorted.
Obtained pegs from eBay for very few pennies as suggested by Raffles.
Shorter screw part, 10mm, so needed to drill out existing 8mm hole for peg pin.

This is what it looks like now...

...it's secure and works just fine. Although as it's on a L plate 125cc it'll never get used. Useful bungie point though Wink

Thumbs Up
