Minor dent I had the other day. Was planning on cutting into the gap between the white car (BMW?) and the black Prius, did a life-saver, and saw this figure bearing down on me at speed.

I overtook him earlier, I think he was trying to race me.

No real damage though, other than registration plate coming off.

I'm guessing it was in London where they all seem to ride/drive like nutters! Smile

Were you trying to get in the right hand lane?

The road approaching the junction has two lanes, but the exit from the junction only has one. I was trying to get to the middle of the road between the two lines of traffic rather than be held up by the cyclists on the inside - also it's generally more dangerous to go up the inside.

To be fair you wasn't actually going right when he crashed into you. You checked your shoulder and was about to when he did so. So that guy obviously wasn't very attentive. You braked way before he got to you so even more evidence to prove he wasn't paying attention. His fault.

You hit the brakes with a clear road ahead, that kind of road use drives me insane.

People who skip traffic and then stop on a clear road to pull back in.

The road ahead isn't clear; it's filled with cyclists.

It's called planning. You should try it some time. Start by looking more than a few metres ahead.

Oh there's zero doubt it's his fault. I did a lifesaver and saw him coming up very quickly, didn't know what direction he was going to try and pass me, so tried to do as little as possible and braced in case of impact. Only fractions of a second to do anything.

Try driving down a motorway where people regularly slam on from 70mph to pull into a full lane. You will soon get pissed off with people doing it.

Either way, you should have continued at the speed of the cyclists, not hit the brakes just so you wasn't inconvenienced after putting yourself in that position.

Whether it's right or wrong, so many accidents are caused by people like you who may not necessarily be "wrong" but are totally inconsiderate to other road users.

You had plenty of road to reduce your speed gradually, you may have done a shoulder check, and you did not see the scooter approaching. YOU could have done something to avoid that accident, in your first shoulder check before you slam on the brakes you can see the shadow of the scooter approaching.

Either way, it was poor, inconsiderate riding by you, in a rush, totally unaware of what is going on around you.

You saw him coming, so instead of proceeding and gradually reducing speed you brake check him?

Awesome way to cause an accident.

Phil,

How many times have you been rear-ended?

None, I don't hit the brakes to lane change when road ahead is clear to proceed.

I don't know what incident you're talking about Smile

We both stopped and shook hands on it. He smashed up his mudguard, my registration plate lost its screws.
