Hi all
im looking at fitting a small camera to the new bike ive got (2011 GSX650F).
Had a few scares with other drivers simply not seeing me, and not filtering or anything, had one gimp touch the my number plate while i was at a red light yesterday.

Ive read the power should be from the ignition live and not directly from the battery to, A not kill the battery, and B not damage the camera with SD card.

The system comes with a fuse built in ect, so im wondering if i could hard wire it to the battery and just unplug the camera when i park the bike, will that stop any drain on the battery? or would there ontinue to be a parasitic drain on the system? after all im not going to leave a camera on the bike outside tescos for some little sod to walk away with.

Failing the above, is there a good tutorial anywhere that i could follow to wire it all in?

Thanks very much

EDIT, https://shop.roadhawk.co.uk/roadhawk-ride-bullet-camera this is the camera i was thinking about getting.

Paul

Relayed battery live triggered by ignition live, via your fuse...

Thanks for the info, out of interest for future knowledge, why is this a better method than wiring directly to the battery?

Because you have the advantage of using a direct feed from the battery, using wires correctly guaged for the current required, which is switched on and off by the ignition.

It's not so vital with your application, but if you were powering heated grips, for example, there's a danger that they would overload the ignition wires if wired through them but flatten the battery if wire directly and left switched on.

It's a way of adding accessories without overloading the original loom.

Hi

I second his suggestion. The feed for the rear brake light switch is an easy switched feed to tap into normally.

All the best

I'm old-skool, I work out which wire from the ingnition switch is the live feed and take a feed from that.

But yes, the Oracle is right.

Hi

Just realised that what I wrote isn't that clear (although think you know what I mean). I meant to use the feed for the rear brake light switch as a switched feed as a trigger for the relay.

All the best

Keith

'Switched' should make it clear, but....
