Hi all. It's been almost a year since I rode a bike, now looking to get back into it. Due to a low budget I bumped into a few cheap Suzuki RF600s on ebay. I know nothing about them. What do you think of them? Are they reliable? What are the common faults and what to look out for when viewing one? The bike will be used for fun, no commuting.

Thanks alot!

You'd be much better off with an RF900, if it still falls within your budget.

Really? Based on what?

They are fairly nippy for the price. The build quality isn't the best, but they will last a fair while. I had one before that was on 60k miles and had sat outside in a seaside carpark for 5 years and had surface rust but no more. Comfy, fairly fast, good on fuel. Downsides is heavy, ugly by most's standards and electrics need a good going over with wd40 before winter.

That's better to hear. There is one on ebay with 25k on it only, guy wants £600 for it, so I thought, something definitely must be wrong with it? Like I said, it will not be my transport just a fun thing but I defo don't want to constantly be working on it.

I've had three, and haven't paid more than 700 quid for one.

Check for rust on the inside of the frame halfway up the tank. The engines are fairly quiet, so if it's knocky or ticky I'd avoid.
