Apparently a stock Busa will run a slower 1/4 mile than a stock ZX12R.

I doubt whether it counts as standard but it is a roadbike.

There was that custom built bastard that Triumph built. 2 Litres of pure lovliness. V8 Engine.

It was the only one in the world, so I suppose you can't class it as standard, but if it were mass produced, I expect it could set a few records (one of which being heaviest bike in the world. The thing weighed more than a Goldwing!)

You obviously haven't seen the Triumph Rocket III. its a production motorbike. Look here.

It also has the largest engine capacity for a production motorbike, at 2,294-cc.

no

no

no

the Guiness Book of records has been baffled by Suzuki's Marketing machine

it says the Hayabusa is "claimed to be " the world's fastest production motorcycle

do you know of any other entry in the GBOR which Guinness themselves haven't tested?? this is so bizarre, relying on what Suzuki claim it can do ... in well over 50 tested bikes I have never seen a stocker do more then 184, never mind 194

in every test we have done in totally stock trim the zx12r is faster

significantly faster

and the Y2K thing, well yeah, in theory it's a production motorcycle, and in theory ist's very fast

but I know of not one that has actually been ridden in anger so like the busa it is "claimed to be" fast

not one stock busa has passed our timing lights on the limiter at 186mph, not one

zx12s do it regularly

no stock busas before the limiters were fitted went this fast either and we tried a lot, but zx12s do

the press have specially prepped bikes so you can ignore anything you read in magazines, especially from the busa launch in 1999

Do they "tune" bikes they give to journalists, to give them a better impression, then detune the production run to make them reliable enough for people who are going to use them all the time, rather than just for a day or few to write an article?

Hi

Having owned an ex road test bike and blown the engine up, yes there were signs that the original barrel had ports which had been played with.

All the best

all I'll say is that the press had a Hayabusa in 1999

it supposedly ran 194 in stock trim

we have run several since then from 1999 onwards with and without the speed restrictors in and with very, very experienced racers on board and none has topped 184mph

in stock trim, mirrors etc still fitted

now at 180+mph each extra mph you get requires between 2 and 3 bhp so that one busa that the mags had in 1999 was 10mph faster than any since so it had 20-30bhp more than any stocker since

do you think it was just a lucky one off ?? Rolling Eyes

I'm nothing to do with a magazine

but I am a member of a club which exists to race zx12s and Hayabusas at top speed, and have done so many times

guess which I have got Wink

the new zx12 will be restricted to 186mph which it will no doubt do, the busa will also be restricted - but it won't reach the restrictor
