Tories backing The Pfizer Takeover

What a surprise, after Osborne meeting with reps of US drug giant Pfizer, and probably walking out with a free golfing holiday in Bermuda, the Tories are backing their takeover of the massive British drug company Astrazeneca, the biggest takeover in British history according to an FT spokeswoman.

Pfizer are well known for taking over companies, promising to keep them running, then breaking them up. What is the tories plan when they have sold everything off?

We don't really have that much British owned business anymore by the sound of it. Pretty much all the energy companies are French owned. Even the sodding National Lottery is owned by a Canadian Teachers pension fund!

I'm not sure how this can be a good thing for the UK. Pfizer abandoned it's massive plant down at Sandwich in Kent and moved it abroad, I wonder what they'll do with Astrazenica?

US R&D is expensive. Their scientologists get paid more than ours, sometimes 50% more. UK nerds do actually look fairly cheap to them, we speak something like the same lingo and sound very smart doing it, what-what.

Yes, they want to rummage through the patent portfolio, but I might be more worried if I were a 6-figure piece of furniture at Pfizer HQ than a British boffin.

UK mangement, well, that might be a different matter. But every so often you have to release a few wolves into the herd to cull the corpulent.
