Hey all, second post here after getting some sterling advice on fixing my bike! (big end bearing was shot after my first ride out of cbt)
and after riding it after repair the bike cut out on me while riding home. After tracing the problem back, turned out the spark plug had come loose. the day after everything was all fine, but today I felt like my back wheel was wobbling, and then I was almost home and the chain came off so I had to push it home again. so that's 3/4 days riding that I've not made it home Mad

How often do you guys have problems? Are they big ones? small ones? expensive or an easy fix? do you walk home often? or am I just a little unlucky? Smile

Either you're unlucky or have bought a shitter - In excess of 50k miles, I have never had to push a bike anywhere.

I did have to get my Fazer taken home by van after an accident though - that said it was a write off!

Sadly Chinese bikes are not famous for their reliability.

Nothing outside of the basics Frank.

Always change oil at 2k on my bikes, cheap oil but frequent changes.

Then just the usual weekly once over, brakes, chain etc etc.

I am certainly not a fan of cleaning but I like to keep it in good mechanical order.

Last time I had to push was when my CB100N ran out of fuel. That was a long time ago.

Only a couple and a couple times recovery, throttle cable snapped twice on me (different bikes both ancient and rusty, were lubed but it was a matter of time). Few offs caused collection, one mechanical fault ended up me pushing the bike 5 miles roughly.

Oh and another when I lost the pin on the chain on my CG, the chain came off at 50mph ended up destroying the case. Pushed it home and fitted a new chain and sprocket set personally.

I pushed mine today, about 25 yards so I could put it into the office carpark (I couldn't be arsed to go up 2 floors to get my lid on my lunch break)`

I've had to push a bike back once, a crappy chinese cg clone.

After that, I never let it run out of fuel Laughing

Lost count of RAC callouts in the first few months of owning my 535. A bunch of bike has sat in storage faults, some botched repairs and a dealership mechanic who couldn't weld cost me a bunch of money.

Have the bike checked over thoroughly by a competent mechanic.

Never, because I've ridden around minor niggles and only once been 'stranded' which was luckily on my mate's driveway outside his garage full of tools so dismantling the bike wasn't a problem.

However, I doubt I'll ever push my bike home as I have breakdown cover and that's what it's there for.

I have pushed an ER-5 400 yards or so to the end of my road to the bike shop after it shat its chain, but that was for a friend and only after she'd had it recovered to me in the first place (on the basis there was a bike shop end of my road and she could book it in there first thing in the morning).

I've never pushed my bike home.

If there was an issue which meant I'd have to push it more than about 400 metres, I'd call the AA

Never. Even on my 125 which I frequently "optimised" until it stopped working, I carried a multitool and just got stuck in.

You really need to keep on top of those, it's not their best bike.

Once

8 miles of what seemed mostly uphill. Rear sprocket had decided to come off, my own fault for not bolting it on properly. I learned 4 things...
1 - Don't change sprockets when stoned you won't tighten stuff up properly.
2 - Always carry a toolkit (I do now).
3 - That thing you hear about bikers helping each other is horseshit.
4 - Bikes are fucking heavy

I've had two bikes that were nothing but trouble, and needless to say I had to push both of them somewhere. The other two I've had were a lot newer and in much better shape, so no pushing yet (fingers crossed)

I have pushed my KDX a total of about 5 miles, in two separate incidents. I have only ridden it about 20 miles! I call it my exercise bike.

I've never had to push my Thundercat anywhere except into and out of the garage before or after thousands of miles of fault-free service.

It's never happened to me, but I'd have a go at riding home with a snapped clutch cable. Done right you can shift up and down without the clutch and then either ride in a way to never stop, or just stall it and restart in gear if you're forced to.

Bit of a bummer when it snapped in 4th gear... I couldn't slow down enough for lights etc... Confused
