Have you checked the chokes?
The choke valves in the carb can stick; while the levers that lift them can bend or go loose on the rod; so when you put choke 'off' one or two of them might not actually go off!
That would be my first check.
Next; you say you have had carbs off to clean... and haven't posted for a while; so do we presume bikes been laid up?
Mine, has played up when laid up, but tended to always be a lot happier after having tank drained and fresh fuel.
Next; sticky tappets; remember they are hydraulic; oil level, oil grade, have you done a change? And plugs?
Next, pipes; does it still have Original chrome twin-pipes on it? If so an AWFUL lot of carb faults are not in the carb bit holes in the exhaust, and them chrome pipes are likely to be well past sell by date if still fitted; check the balence pipe for rot... and if you're next question is "What balance pipe" could be problem solved! Other wise look closely where the hanger tanks are, and at the low spots around the header collectors for signs of rust/holing.
Lastly, back to the carbs, and possibility of perished diaphragms. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

hi mike cheers for that list yes the bike was off for the winter and engine out to fix a rattle from the bottom end which turned out to be the alt chain tensioner but fixed it with a diy weld as its a complete engine strip and would have cost more than the bike was worth just to do it! the exhaust is a 4 into 1 motad its new and ok but would prefer something with a tad more grunt the chokes seem to come off ok as the bike ticks over nice but will check that anyway its had new fuel and a few full tanks already this month as I like to get my road tax worth lol I take it the only way to check the mixture is with a colortune kit but feel they are taking the piss charging £14 more for the one for a bike than a car so am reluctant to buy one...  ____________________ if it aint broke why fix it ? |
