My facebook news feed is full of these mongs.

Half the time they don't realise that if they'd not wasted all their money on a lupo they might have been able to afford something a bit more reasonable.

Ah well.

Rolling Eyes

What's the point in having the bike? You can walk, or catch the bus...

Why do people want to change exhausts on bikes? Or the bars? Or anything?

If they want to do it, it's their money Thumbs Up and their choice Thumbs Up

If we all wanted to do the same stuff, and leave our "toys" standard, the world would be a pretty dull place...

What's the point in this thread?

Plenty of them around here, they hang down at what's called "The sands" here .. basically near the centre of Dumfries along the river Nith

All they do is laps around the parking area or floor it along the main road in first gear nearly blowing their cars up, happens pretty much every night, sometimes me and a few friends go down to watch them hoping that one blows their engine Rolling Eyes

I'm all for changing exhausts etc, if you want to, but why do it on a piece of shit? It's like me getting an aftermarket exhaust for my CBF. Does fuck all for the performance, it'll either sound racy but still got the performance of a standard 125 or sound shittier than it all ready did and still not have any increase in performance. Plus I'd have waisted 100 odd quid.

If their cars were half decent like a ford focus RS (still not amazing but better than a lupo), it'll make a tad more sense as the sound half matches the performance.

I don't like the over the top boy racer crap, but I do like modified cars to an extent

Like at the minute I have my second old gold gti which I have lowered and will be getting some old school bbs alloys soon. (No tints, subs or exhaust crap though). Purely because I love old golf's and I think they look nicer that way

Not all about performance, cars pretty nippy but has nothing on a bike, just do it for the look really

Each to their own etc Thumbs Up

At 17 I wanted to be an individual too except I had style.

1976 vauxhall chevette in blue (until handpainted with gloss on a windy day).
Full interior makeover that included fluffy door cards in vivid red and what can only be described as a venetian blind on the rear window.

I later 'Rallyed' it by removing everything bar the front seats and adding headlights off a crane. I killed that car many times.

Where are you LDG 13P ?

It's all personal preference mate, just like how some people may say to you why do you have a performance exhaust on a commuting bike, it's hardly a race bike why have don't you keep the standard exhaust? Well because it looks better & sounds better, just a like a Lupo looks and sounds better when modified (in my opinion anyway).

I've always liked the old Mark 3 Golf's, I know they're not fast but i'd chuck money at one if I could afford to. I'd aim for something like this. https://www.carmovies.net/var/albums/Car-Shows/Stonor-Park-VW-Shows/Stonor-2007/Mk3-Golfs/mk3_golf_black_fq.jpg?m=1326043087

It's a piece of shit to you, but obviously not to them (and if you think a little about that you'll realise that your pride and joy is a piece of shit to someone else...).

I'll add that I personally don't think a Focus RS is anything much, just a family hatch in a frock (I prefer quirky cars).

It is Wink had a black anniversary 8v, just picked up a 16v with 66k on the clock, it is rather tidy!

Got a soft spot for mk3s

Mine came with the Viper exhaust system, probably wouldn't have changed it if I brought one with a standard exhaust. But yeah does sound nice but also although It's just a Bandit 600 still has some performance there to go with the sound. Lupo's just sound like they can go fast but in fact aren't any quicker than without an exhaust.

Golf's aren't so bad, they are quite nippy although I think there's a point where you can do a vehicle up till it looks completely stupid. Some shitty cars like lupo's look okish with the racy look but then you have people that go way over the top with the looks but all the people I know have made the cars look good, gone over the top and not touched on the performance.

Like the Bandit I have. I've done nothing too it since I brought it, well except replaced some of the bolts with stainless steel socket cap screws and removed paint of the down pipes but it was once a faired model. Whoever took that off and did it up did a pretty decent job. Looks quite racy without looking too racy for it's own good. Then you have people that completely street fighter them. I admit some of them look decent other's just look way over the top and look and sound like they can go quicker than what they actually can.

Why? Why not! Yes, it may seem a little silly all these young guys in slow cars making them look like that, but they can't afford supercharged 3.2l AMG Mercs. So they do this. Coincidentally, some guy in what looked to be a VW (debadged, but this typical style) thought he was being a bit quick until I owned the shit out of him in my grandad car. His exhaust was popping and backfiring, he was revving the fuck out of it, but it was no substitute for a turbo and quite a few horsies. However, he was handling like he was on rails, and my car was a little soft.

I would never make a car or bike look or sound faster than it actually was, but I'm all for noisy exhausts and whatever if they vehicle can live up to it's bark.

Thinking of a few subtle and tasteful mods for my Saab, coilovers, sound system, new rims and remap. I still want it to be fairly standard looking, but handling at least as well as it goes! It is a 2.8t with possibly 300bhp post remap, I don't think it's unreasonable.

Some may still says that's all pointless. So what, it'll make me happy.

The people who own those cars in the pic have even admitted they're a piece of shit. Also asked one of them the top speed of his Lupo and he said "i've had 110 out of mine, but that was going down hill on the A14 and took years to get there." Although I did more mean they're shit in terms of being fast cars. I'm sure Lupo's are fine for getting from A to B.

Not saying they shouldn't do what they wanna do just asking what is the point of spending so much money on something that doesn't really do much in terms of performance. If they toned it down a little, like some of the shit they do just looks stupid, but if they did it so it looked racy without looking too promising AND tuned the performance then I can see why they'd do it.

I don't see it as any different from any biker adding a race can to their bike. There are plenty of college kids with 125cc bikes that have a sports exhaust on that park near where I work. If they like it - so be it.

These young car drivers are no different to us, they get pleasure out of driving and modding, and we get pleasure out of riding and modding.

Even they are pointless. Although loud exhausts on bikes are useful for increases the chances of being noticed by car drivers.

I don't mind the modding of cars if they are hlaf decent cars. Like golf's are much better and only if done properly. Like I say, most of these people go completely over the top with moding their cars that crosses the border line of looking cool/racy to looking completely ridiculous.

Bit like at a bike meet at Jack's hill cafe, there was a Bandit 600 that had been street fightered way too much. I myself don't mind the Bandit, I know many here don't like them, but I've been happy with mine so far but this bandit I saw at that bike meet was just terrible and probably didn't go much quicker than mine.

Depends on what kind of performance they want! Granted they probably want a faster car, but if they want the piece of shit to sound better (to their ears), then they could get it with the shitty exhaust etc...

A couple of my old friends had different ways of sorting their cars when they were younger. One made his basic saxo look like a VTS, another tried to make his r5 turbo look like a bog standard r5 (he had the engine tuned too, was quick for a few weeks until it overheated and burned).
