Buy whatever fits best. Be aware the flip ups may well have been tested and approved as an open face helmet, so only expect that level of protection.

Personally I'd go for the Caberg, highly rated brand & I think that's a 5 star lid.

Have you been to a shop and tried them all on ? That's the best way to know what one you want

Like personally I can't stand caberg helmets, out of everything I've owned it had by far the worst build quality and was the heaviest

Do shops generally stock the cheaper lids? Never seen any <£100, apart from one dodgy looking shop that doesn't seem to have any 'normal sizes' (small or medium).

Depends on the shop, one near me has about 200 lids in it starting at around £100+

Another has a smaller amount but start at like £40

Seems like the smaller gear shops I have been in stock the cheaper lids

I have a viper now, which I bought off ebay. I did try the same model on in a shop before hand though for sizing.
It was £30 something cheaper than in the bike shop.

I see where your coming from, However I do not like to haggle for prices. It makes me feel uncomfortable.
I was going to buy the helmet from the shop but I hadn't even completed my CBT at that stage.
In any case though I would much prefer to search for the cheapest price and go from there.
In fact I would actually avoid shops that gave discount to 'favoured' customers or people who haggle. Its one of my pet hates. Why should I have to pay more if I'm not confident or cheeky enough to ask for discount?
I've tried it with my car and I'm pretty sure I probably ended up paying more anyway's - lol

Regarding cheap helmets - Nitro's have been favourable for me on a few occasions. I'm using one of the 'Viper' helmets at the moment which has done me fine so far.

I do avoid shops generally as i've found its hard to find places stocking the cheaper helmets; if I could i'd definately consider buying in store if it gave me a chance to try them on for fit and save potential hassle buying/returning for 'cheaper' online sales.

If i'm honest, I do use the large stores for try-on's with a lot of gear at times. The prices compared to online are usually ridiculous though, and for large companies it would seem to not be ignorance on their behalf, but rather they rely on a certain clientele - the same ones that pay excessively over the usual prices for bikes - ''because dealership/warranty''.

I went to my local J&S, had loads of lids from £15-£60, and a whole load more besides in terms of price. Eventually spent £40 on a Box somethingorother. They didn't mind me trying on everything. I'd prefer to buy a helmet from a shop, as much as anything so I know it didn't get abused in the warehouse by the Parcelforce monkeys.

As for the LS2, I went karting a few weeks ago and forgot my own helmet, so had to use one of theirs. Was well worn, but if it were mine I wouldn't have been impressed. Didn't like it, felt cheap and to be fair wasn't all that comfortable.
