My goal is to save £3000 then buy a sub litre sportsbike. Ninja 636 is high on my list of possibles but what else would fit that budget? Cheers.

I reckon if you look good enough a 2006 GSXR 600 could be had for that money.

Maybe a Daytona or cbr similar age too

i doubt it, you can barely get a K5 gsxr 600 for 3K, think theres only one for sale in the country for under 3k. K6 are all over 4 grand at the minute from what ive seen

you also will rarely see a 675 for under 3.5k, not unless its a bit rough

you could pick up a 2004 ish cbr 600

636 is a good choice

but personally if and when i plan on getting another sub litre sport bike for that sort of money it would be a K3 gsxr 750

Oh wow!

Prices are more than when I was looking last year...

Some K5's near your price range...

07/08 zx6r they don't seem to be holding their money as well as the previous 636 and subsequent 600.
Apparently the earlier 636 has a storming engine and handles and the 09> 600 is just a bloody good bike hence it's still used in bsb supersport.

I've got a 08 p8f kawa and it's a brilliant bike, I've not ridden the other bikes so can't compare but I find it a cracking bike. You'd pick one up private for not much more than 3k.

Thumbs Up

I'd go for the 05/06 636's, can't fault mine and held its value pretty well.

I've ridden an 07 [fairly sure they're the same as the 08's?] and didn't notice any difference personally, so unless you particularly like the looks over the earlier ones it wouldn't be worth paying much more I don't reckon.

If you keep an eye out/stretch your budget a little above 3k you can get some real bargains sometimes, quite a few with very low mileage pop up now and again.

One on autotrader at the moment with 4k miles at 3300.

Gixer 750 is another possibility. I'm thinking £500 on top of the three grand for any niggles that need sorting as well. Cat D would be too much trouble though.

You could easily get a mint Honda Firestorm for a couple of grand, not the fastest thing on the planet but a lot of bike for very little money and a lot more grunt than the screaming 4 cylinder bikes.

Quite the opposite if you're paying £2k, I'd say.
Well, I'll agree on 'not the fastest'. Yes, it has more midrange 'grunt' than sports 600s. But compared to a litre 4, nope.
Also, ground clearance distinctly lacking, suspension not particularly great and rather lardy.

For the OP, very depends what you want.
GSXR760, Triumph 675 and 636 will offer you a 'bit more'. than some of the other sports 600s. Any of the new generation (ie onwards from R6, B1H, RR, K) will all be very decent sports bikes.

Seems it boils back down to the gixxer and 636. At least they're are plenty of low milage ones around. A quick search of firestorms on gumtree and they all seemed to be very high milage.

G's right. A decent storm cost's £1000 a lot less than a decent 600cc sportsbike of the same era. A perfect spotless storm is no more than £1500 and I'd expect some nice bits on it for that.

I bet you can still get £1500 for a ZX6R J1-2 A1 etc?

This week ive seen a few SRAD Gixer750s up for under yoir budget, also found 3 1995-1997 ducati 748's in red, one a biposto for £2600+ but as much as my heart says yes! Yes! Yes! My mind shouts NOOOOO!!! i would be worried about lots of things worn broke and knackered at this price, id wanna do a full service and 100% check with a specialist ducati dealer which would push it way over budget!

Still really wanna buy it though... Very Happy

granted this is the worst time of year to buy one but, btu i just had a look and the prices of 748s are through the roof compared to when i last looked!

when i was selling my RVF last year for £2900 i had a dealership contact me and offered me a straight swap for a carbon fibre 748 that had been in a showroom for ages and looked brand new. you could pick up a normal one for around 2K. cant believe they've gone up that much in a year

wish i took their offer now Laughing

Hindsight can be a right biatch!! I once got offered a red Ducati 916, for £3000. It looked mint, tidy panels, low milage, decent tyres etc. man was offering my any payment options, he just wanted me to have it as "i obviously loved it, and it was meant to be my bike" (queue alarm bells ringing!!!) i asked for a test ride - denied - i asked if i could hear it run, no... i asked if the panels could be removed... nope!! My dad was with me so he wandered off to look at another bike so i could look at the Duc' alone. i whipped the panel off and found that the battery, cylinder heads, down pipes and half the wiring loom was missing. the dry clutch was in bits on the floor under the bike!

I asked him how long it would take to get it on the road, he said 36hrs!!! I walked (sprinted) away and brought a Suzi 650s instead. That man shouldve been arrested for crimes against Ducatis!!
