For Sale: Honda CB125T, low mileage, a bit battered, possessed by a dark agent of Lucifer £Offers??
Just once, could I pleeeeeese have a day of practice without incident? I went to a local car park to shake off the jitters from my off last Sunday. It was great doing low speed stuff again - I highly recommend it for the noobs like me. I did figure 8's until I started to zone out and then moved on to stationary U-turns, figure 8's on an incline/decline and stationary U-turns on an incline/decline. After that I was feeling quite smug so I set off for a ride.
About five minutes in I moved to change up a gear and the lever wasn't there . Freaking out, I looked down to see it pointing skywards. I paniced and pulled onto a grass verge. The problem was simple, I failed to adjust the lever accurately after the off. All I need is a spanner. I tried to put the bike on the stand, but the ground was too soft. Undaunted I pulled the key out of the ignition and tried to open the seat to get out the tools. The lock was jammed!?! (Please note this is completely random and has never happened before) So I had to wait for half an hour, in the rain, while my mum drove to my location with a spanner.
She kept an eye on traffic while I pushed the bike to a lay by. I adjusted the lever, got back into my helmet and gloves and popped the bike off the stand. And dropped it. Damage: bent back brake lever. For those keeping track, this was the third time
Rode home miserable in the rain. Fixed gear lever properly. Fixed brake lever. Managed to drop most of my tools down the tiny access hole I have to the seat lock trying to fix it. Short of taking off every bit of fairing and unbolting the lid I have no idea how to deal with that

Sounds like one of those days,
everything takes three times as long as it should and needs to be done three times as many times as would normally be the case.
Maybe there comes a time when you need to admit defeat, take it to a shop an get it all fixed and sorted so you can pretty much start fresh on it?
Failing that, bad times cant last forever ____________________ Previous - Gilera DNA50 / XVS125 Dragstar/Honda CBR 600F/GSF 650 Bandit

Ugh...what a day As I suspected, the only way to get the seat open was to remove all the side fairing and trim. Finally I made enough space to squeeze a pair of long nose pliers in there to undo the lock bolts. It turns out that a tiny piece of the locking mechanism has broken into three pieces. A replacement lock? £45. That would amount to £45 for a piece of metal about the size of a 5p
I can't be arsed with that. I'm going to scout around for a bit of metal and try to whittle a new one Until then my seat is flapping in the wind...

Not to say you're unlucky, but is there any chance you can pick 43 lottery numbers for me!
My bike is in bits as well. I am trying to change the fork seals, and it's a right pain in the arse, so I am off my bike for a bit as well.
At least the weathers crappy just now so we aren't missing out on anything. I am probably the same as you - just wanting to practise now so I can fly about when the summer comes! |

If I had had one of them there reversible hammer things it would have been a doddle, but brute strength wasn't enough to seperate them!
Turns out that it's not the seals that are leaking anyway, there's some pitting on the fork which is letting the oil through. Be buggered if I'm paying £90 for a new one tho I'll just have to keep an eye on it and top it up with oil when/if it needs it. |

It's ok, I'm back, you can all start using the road again
17km without a crash. Wooooohooooo! I think I get now how to use the gears to best advantage. My gear changing activity was 1000% more than on the day of the spill. You know, changing down from 5th when going round corners, stuff like that
The boots are going to take some getting used to. Compared to the walking boots I was in before it's like wearing a splint. Also, since my hands got too cold, I have been wearing loads more layers of clothing (long sleeve t-shirt, fleece, another fleece, double lined textile jacket / jeans, double lined textile trousers). Does anyone else find it more awkward to ride the more clothes you are wearing? Today I felt like the volume was turned down on the world. It's an odd feeling, like trying to pick up small things with thick gloves, only across my whole body. It does seem to help with the hands, but I really don't like feeling that disconnected from the bike. And don't say give up until summer! I have to use the bike to get to my new job.
