Hey Guys,

Just starting to get my license and I'm looking for a new bike.
My dad and uncle always drove vintage bikes like the bonneville and a Honda 400 four (well they weren't vintage then off course).

I always enjoyed how the bikes looked. Now, many years later it's my turn to buy one, and I want to go for a similiar model, just an updated version.

I'm 5,5 - 140lbs, and I'm afraid these bikes (the CB1100 for sure) are to heavy or big for me. I'm not sure about the Bonneville or the Thruxton.

In a few weeks I'm going to see some dealers and just see if they fit.

Height isn't that important, it's inside leg that matters.

The Triumphs will be fine, unless you're an otter.

CB1100, well, that is a bit lardy, but you'll only notice it at very low speeds or when it's lying on you.

Made an appointment with the dealer today. Going to have a look at the Thruxton and Bonneville.

Actually go and sit on that CB1100. Ask to push it and paddle it around, it's quite a lot smaller and easier than you might think. I think of it as basically a 750 with an 1100 low tune motor.

Be interested what you thought reference quality between the Honda/Triumph.

I went to the Triumph dealer and sat on a Bonneville and a Thruxton.
The Bonneville with his 740mm seat height and 240kg is really manageable.
I can lift the bike of its stand, put my feet flat on the floor and tilt the bike in enough degrees without feeling it's just going to fall over.

The Thruxton has the same weight, but is a little higher. I didn't feel as comfortable on it as on the Bonneville.
Also, the more sporty ergonomics of the Thruxton didn't feel as good.

So the Bonneville it is Smile

Have to admit I agree, especially the revised version with the wire wheels. Just looks fabulous to my eyes, would choose that as a sunny day cruiser over any Harley or Harley clone. But that price tag! Confused

T100 would be better and that's £7399 - yes ok, still over 2k difference but you could soon make that up on a T100 - for adding some suff like £45 for a fuel cap that actually locks :/ - mud guards are plastic on a t100 too - iirc - and the suspension, doesn't that need replacing too?

What I find odd is that there's no option for a centre stand on the cb1100ex ... indeed there are no options at all

Wouldn't turn down either bike to be fair..

Yeah, the "configure" option on the Honda website just leads to a colour chooser and that's it. Laughing

If I bought the Bonny, I could rest easy on a bean bag stuffed with cash.

Do quite want to try a CB1100, but that price aims it squarely at the "you can't take it with you" market. Maybe once I've cleared the mortgage, evicted the kids, and traded Mrs Borg in for some teenage tart.

The 'configure' page is like that for all Honda bikes.. it's stupid.

What I mean is the accessories page... https://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/accessories/cb1100ex/

Quote:
Sorry, there are no accessories available for this model.

Also why no W800 ?
