Koken, made in Japan.

I've got loads of their stuff, but these are my new arrivals.

Flexible extension is a god send for tricky oil filters that lay behind header pipes (early hayabusa for example) where not even a normal universal joint can help.

Just wanted to share.

I'm pretty sure I have something of theirs, but I can't remember what it is. Where do you buy in the UK? Or do you order from Japan?

Hi

I have bought one before now in the UK from a guy who used to sell Facom stuff at various bike shows (think he just does Ebay as Dave The Tools or something like that now). Needed a thin walled plug socket of a certain size and that was the easiest to get hold of.

All the best

Keith

Brilliant tools, they really only do socketry related stuff but it really is nice stuff.

I've got some Facom, Gedore and Snap on stuff, I'd put Koken sockets right up there with the best, probably better than snap on on socketry.

I get my stuff from Consolidated tools, Manchester, (https://www.consolidatedtools.com/) sites down at mo - great guy, email him some cat numbers of what you need from the EU Catalogue, he'll give you the prices, paypal the invoice and get your tools!

Most of the koken ebay stuff is Dave the tools (seems tad more expensive and never replied to my emails about an order I wanted to place) and Consolidated tools)

About 1/3 of the price of Snap on.

Sorry to sound like the salesmen but I am just that passionate about their stuff.

I've been browsing the Japanese sites and they look pretty cheap. If the quality's as good as you say then 29 quid for a 1/2 ratchet is enticing. EDIT looks like you got the drain plug socket and some hex sockets there. Can't find the flexible extension though?

Pictured are some metric deep sockets just to complete my deep socket set I've been building slowly, sizes 13, 15, 17.

1/4 Bit ratchet, 1/4 low profile hex sockets, 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor and 3.8 flexible extension.

The only outlet I found for some obscure stuff is consolidated tools, they can get anything available to the UK market.

3/8 Flexible extension Bar
Cat: 3762 £26

Try this catalogue for size.

Currently only have a small 1/4 socket set and thus have nothing over 13mm. Thinking about getting a 1/2 set to cover the difference. The Koken 4752J looks pretty good for 25 quid or so. Question is what kind of sockets to go with it - they offer quite a selection.

It's rare to need deep sockets on a motorcycle, so if going 1/2 drive I'd get RS4410M/10 which gives you most common sizes in the set from 10mm to 22mm

However you can replicate most of that set in 3/8 which will give you a bit better clearence and prob be a bit cheaper (less material)

Thanks. Either way I suppose the 1/4 will get more use on bike work. I was wondering how big a socket I can go with using 3/8 and whether a 1/2 would not be better if I need to tackle something like a 30mm.

What's the deal with their Zeal line then?

As a bike tech most of my time is spent with my 3/8 as the sweet sport for all sizes bike related. I break out the 1/4 for tiny fairing bolts inside headstock areas for instance and you're right anything 22 and above you should start looking at 1/2.

BUT.. how often are you needing larges sockets on a bike? Clutch hub nut, wheel spindle nuts, yoke nut, the rest of your life is spent with 8,10,12,14 with an odd 13 and 17 here and there.

Z line from what I gather is just ultra low profile ratchet and sockets.

I was thinking for example of wheel nuts when I need to change tyres. Admittedly that isn't something that's going to happen often, but when you need it you need it. I suppose I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Hi

There are times I use 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive on the same job (did today, although that was on a car). On a bike 3/8" is probably the most commonly used, but plenty of things I couldn't do with it.

Possibly best to go for a good selection of reasonable quality tools then go for the decent ones when you have the money and want to indulge in some tool porn.

All the best

Keith

You're right, must get out of the habit of buying the best of everything. Crying or Very sad I have a separate shipment coming from Japan and thought I might piggyback some Koken items on that, but the timing didn't look promising as many of the tools need to be ordered and have waiting times of a couple of weeks. Bought a Bahco set instead for 45 quid.

Anyway, think we can agree that OP has some very nice stuff. Thumbs Up
