parents are buying me a rear paddock stand for my bike (Sv650 no centre stand) but not sure which are good.

It will need to work with bobbins as they are already fitted

Not wanting to spend more than £40-£50

Buy a used abba stand, or save a bit more and buy a new one. Paddock stands are crap if you are working on the bike to any serious degree.
But this is just my thoughts, someone else will tell you otherwise im sure!

Cant remember if it was Aldi or Lidl did a front\rear dual purpose stand with selection of attachments, ask your local store to phone round branches for a left over one.

Decent bit of kit.

This one is good and cheapish:

https://www.ghostbikes.com/products/Accessories-Bike-Stands/5066-black-pro-range-heavy-duty-aluminium-rear-paddock-stand-%28b5066%29.html#descriptiontab

Picks up my R6 without even giving it a second thought and very easy to use. After hearing all of the horror stories about cheaper ones bending and the wheels falling off I thought spend a bit more and save the bike from a drop!

This +1

Abba Stands are much better than paddock stands. No balancing act needed.

Thumbs Up

Abba stands are too expensive. This is just for very basic maintenance, such as chain lubing, chain adjustment, cleaning

I get on okay with paddocks, but as has been mentioned, I don't do anything too serious on the bike so they're all I need personally. Its quite tricky to use them alone without feeling worried about dropping the bike I find,so its handy to have someone around to help you put it up if possible. That being said my bikes big and heavy, and i'm thin and weak, so Whistle

Many will only come with the swing-arm cup adaptors installed, so you may need to buy a set of these or similar [generally fit most stands, but double check if possible]. Brand doesn't matter too much if you're just after a rear, all the budget ones are fairly similar anyway, i'd just go for one of the cheapest you can find.

One piece ones are better than meccano kits. Steel ones may benefit from having a rag soaked in acf50 pulled through the inside. The heavier gauge steel (or aluminium alloy) they are built from the better.

Having said that I have a DrBike one from J&S and it's reasonable and cheap. IIRC they do a bobbin version too.

I've seen the Dr bIke one and didn't see anything wrong with it really. Will probably go for that one or one posted earlier up in the thread
