I currently have a 1989 CBR1000. Mechanically its in great condition. Asthetically its rather challenenged.
I bought mine for a very small sum of cash, but the fairings where cracked, tatty and needed replacing really. I had the idea to pull them off, repair them and re-paint. In the long run this is way too much work to be worth it.
Im all for removing the fairing and putting a seperate headlight on, but I think these CBRs look ridiulous without fairing.
Heres what it should look like when its all done up nicely:

And here is what they look like without any fairing:

Any guys have any ideas before I consider selling it on, would really hate to do that though Sad

If you've got the money and time, restore it to original.

They might not be the most well thought of bike now, but they are getting increasingly rare, as people buy them cheap and do dodgy fighter conversions Wink

I always think of them as the bike the BMW K1 designers really meant to build.

Theyre on my list of bikes I'd like to own. My friends dad had one when they first came out. Odd but he never fancied swapping goes - me onto his cbr1000, him onto my 125. Funny old thing.

My suggestion...

just ride it. You can't see what it looks like from the saddle.

I'd say either ride as is or restore. "Custom streetfighters" are 2 a penny, and unless done really well they all look the same to me, that is rather ugly. Also if you want to sell it on, you'd probably get more with it as original as possible. There's many an advert on Ebay for "streetfighters" that just have fairing removed and Renthal bars stuck on, which go for very little money

Thats ideally what I would like to do, but fairings are literally impossible to find. Actually, I did manage to find some that where in even worse condition than mine.

Yeah exactly, really trying to avoid the whole dodgy streetfigther thing, im not going to go into anything unless im sure I can make it look good.
